Howard, thanks for highlighting the link to our new table tennis facilities. It wasn't just the parish council that got them a good community effort - it was an initial suggestion by residents followed up with support from the village hall committee, local volunteers, and the 100Club organisers and contributors who give their time and money to support local causes. Even our contractor went the extra mile to ensure the base was laid on time.
A part of our grant application was that the outdoor table would be freely available for all district residents to use. One of the main reasons for me posting again is to publicise it, so get out and have a go - all we ask is you don't hog the table and don't park in the pub car park if you're not a customer.
Another great community organisation is
Coldred Forum - being the smaller partner on Shepherdswell PC they have developed their own great events and fundraising oprganisation and are responsible for Coldred regularly winning prizes in Kent's Best Kept Village competition. Only on Friday they challenged Lydden to beat them on points in next year's competition!
I'm sorry the thread developed into the usual spat and don't want to carry it on but will just mention what is a matter of public record from our minutes. Lydden PC has been working with our District Councillor for the last two years on finding a space for a children's play area in the village - it has been recognised in both of DDC's Play Area Reviews over the last 10 years as lacking this facility. We have a problem finding a suitable site but are currently discussing lease/purchase options with a local landowner and have had advice and support from DDC's Community Safety officer and Regeneration Officers, which is ongoing, and the great facilities installed recently at Capel and Guston show this can be done.
We also have our playing field which we recognise is underused (except by moles and rabbits) and have been in discussion with DDC sports development officers, Sport England, KentSport, and National Lottery funding advisers. DDC is due to have a Playing Field Review and once this is completed we will know what sport facilities are needed in the district and will working with them to obtain funding for new pitches and changing facilities.
All this was discussed as an Agenda item at our last meeting, which is the right way to do it. Vic turned up as we were going into Any Other Business and demanded to show us his plans for cricket nets which he had prepared and discussed with outside organisations without prior consultation with or knowledge of the other councillors, which is the wrong way to do it.
