I have to agree with Andy (258). I really don’t think P&O will get through this and DFDS will be waiting to get their ships. To get the right ship for this route is extremely difficult (size, speed, manoeuvre abilities, berth fits, passenger capabilities etc) and these are of course, perfectly suited. I agree entirely with his predictions.
We have all seen them come and go over the years, Townsend, mopped up by P&O, Normandy, again taken by them, SeaSpeed and Hoverlloyd became HoverSpeed, Sealink became Stena that became P&O Stena, Seafrance came and went, Speed ferries was another. I think they call it ‘evolution’.

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency says there are no further inspections of P&O Ferries planned at the moment.

P&O says seven agency-employed seafarers who returned from shore were found to be in breach of its guidelines on alcohol consumption and were dismissed: ‘We continue to operate a zero tolerance policy towards drinking whilst on duty.’ 19/04

You know, sadly hardly any of all the ferries crews are local. Half of DFDS are Portuguese and a mixture of British and Eastern European. I understand Irish Ferries are mostly from abroad too. Even for the British crew, two weeks on is better for commuting so they come from all over and I guess after all these years, skills are now hard to find locally. It’s all such a shame.

I completely agree Keith, I really don’t think that they will recover from this. Why they didn’t approach the staff and explain that they are in the s***, and ask them all to take a temporary pay cut or take redundancy, I find hard to follow. Then they could probably have continued.

Try this regarding the Kent and Causeway - interesting reading..?

I am still of the view that they won’t get through this, eventually will be in the hands of administrators.

Got it now - it's the 20th April one (
https://www.rmt.org.uk/news/dp-world-protest-against-pando-sackings/).
When you posted "And now they have refused entry to other international inspectors" I thought you meant that P&O was refusing access to port state vessel inspectors, such as the MCA or its EU equivalents. However, the press release refers to union officials from the ITF (International Transport Workers' Federation) being denied access by Port of Dover Police when they sought to investigate welfare issues following reports of bad practices on P&O vessels. So, perhaps not quite "Another PR disaster" this time.
