Still a no to that, Mr Vic! For example, it's currently, what, about half its target depth and even that is somewhat shallow for today's ro-ro vessels.

When I was working over there the ship on the run was 30.000 tons the same size as the ones today sir.

Vic's replies are because he is still trying to equate years ago with today, something we all do at times, and does not really understand how things have changed.

Bring back the Seafreight Freeway, my husband's ship, that carried mainly lorries and their drivers so would completely solve the current problems.

Was that from Western Docks Jan?

I remember the incident. It seems minor now compared to everything else that happened in the 80s but it was still a sad event.

From memory Captain they sailed from Eastern although I think the earlier freight vessels did go from Western.
Button, thanks I have seen that before but not for a long time.
My husband was acting as Medical Officer when she had that engine fire in 1988 so treated the engineer's hands etc prior to the doctor being dropped on board. He never fully got over the experience, I think that poor man's burns as well as the other engineer's death was one tragic accident too many especially after others he had to treat.

Does anyone know what is really going on? Is Shapps happy to sacrifice Kent traffic to make a point? My contacts are equally bemused. The hope was that P&O would have something, however limited, up and running next week as per their press releases.

I reckon P&O don't care, my prediction is that the MCA will continue to find that their agency staff are not up to it, and as they are agency, P&O can get rid overnight. Then all this charade will be what P&O probably wanted all along, get rid of their ferries and cut their losses. DFDS will then purchase the Spirit of Britain and France, scrap the others and carry on as before, just without P&O.
I have no idea if this will happen, just my prediction.........

I think I doubt that. They seem to be trying to bring back their presence on non-Dover routes, whereas Dover/Calais made a profit.
