I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

You can't please all of the people all of the time - looks like Vic and Chris are no exception.

River,Whitfield ,Temple Ewell and Lydden ,did not hold Parish Council election as there were not enough candidates to fill the seats .Alkham did and seven people were elected with one candidate being unsuccessful

So what ,that is nothing to do with me,all I done was stand for a seat in the above parishs and I got on them. And most said I done it just to get my name in the paper and I would not last long, well over ayear now still on all four, working with the other cllrs on the councils. And my name is not in the papers. And I am happy the way it has all turnout.

roger;
i think everyone is aware of the higher profile local people and how they were elected/or got on councils as there were not enough candidates.
what we shouldn't do is be critical of this, if people in those areas were so unhappy at any one candidate then they should have put candidates up against this person, they didn't so we have what we have, no good bleating about it now.
With regard the new development yes of course everyone wants to see the eyrsores gone, and not many people are happy with the proposals for any new development, but we have to accept it's probably the best we are to get so there is no choice but to support this rather than just a rubbish site as at present

I'm not critical of the set-up for co-option or whatever the term is Keith, just that too many threads get turned to Vic. some as he has said, are not if his making, but most are.

Roger it is yourself doing it on this one.If I stoped posting there would be no one to disagree with,+I will also stand up and say what I think is right. But lets get back to the topic now, which is a good one and many views coming over.

Well this development is truly the best slight of hand trick ever, just read all the postings. What is probably the worst design possible for Dover has won grudging approval from most not for what it offers but for what it demolishes. A brick wall to cut the town off from the front, but it gets rid of Burlington House. Replacing the empty site with a carpark, but it gets rid of Burlington House. Restoring the traditional street names by giving them to lanes in the carpark, but it gets rid of Burlington House. Just replacing like for like with a few potential empty shop units, but it gets rid of Burlington House. No housing in what could be a potentially desirable area, but it gets rid of Burlington House.
DHB have some potentially very good developments in line for the Western Docks and China Gateway have some promising developments in line for the Farthingloe Farm site. Even the new houses on Maison Dieu Road (the old PO club site) look very attractive but for the long, long neglected DTIZ, right on the front where it should be inviting to visitors and a promotion of Dover, we get a brick wall and a carpark. But it gets rid of Burlington House.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

Well at least it keeps you occupied Chris & it gets rid of Burlington House.
Watty
The masks on top of Burlington House, could go elsewhere quite easily, their funding would appeal to a lot of places......Gateway Flats included, would offset their increasing ground rents etc. etc.
Burlington House could be removed, just like that if there was the will to do it...but something hidden is going on there.....MI5 job as usual....
You absolutely need to remove Burlington House and the carpark...to see the difference in the space, light and then bring in the designers etc....Houses and a community would be more effective.....the Gateway are becoming very cutoff and isolated....and are losing their desirability......etc.....
Mr Paul Watkins could do with a rest, been in the job far too long for anything imaginative to take hold..............Mr Precious may be a lone voice, but he is talking sense...but then those that do, are made to look foolish or eccentric....
Or they give up and disappear....and we are left with Mr Watkins and Mr Matcham... and really no one or no where else would have them...or put up with them.......................
