Still having great difficulty with the "attractiveness" of a carpark. Definitely do not see any "good for Dover", unless it is shorthand for, Dover District Council parking revenue.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

chris, dont worry dover is one of the biggist car parks in the uk.

Certainly the sodding lay-bys are if the lorries parked with their a**es poking out into the road are anything to go by. Dangerous, but what do the police do?

Yes it does Jenni - a 5 year plan should see it almost, if not completely, finished.
I agree Bern, many of those trucks are quite/very, dangerous.

as i remember it the hotel was supposed to be completed late 2012 and thewhole thing 2 years later.
if it had been the whole dtiz then 5 years would be acceptable

We had a meeting with the developers in Sept 2005 and they promised us the whole scheme would be up and running by Christmas 2007. That was one reason I wrote to the council in strong support of the plans.
I am still strongly supportive of this scheme, although it is not ideal, and will ask to speak in support when it goes to Planning Committee. But I shall mention that if it falls by the wayside like so many other schemes have done, the town will forgive neither the council nor the developers.

You are not coming round to myway of thinking are you? Burlington will still be with us in five years time, said this many times now.

My understanding is that it will be completed sooner than 5 years, but surely it is safer to say 5 years than say 2 and it takes more.
The 2 planning applications are in - one for the Hotel, the other for the rest. I understand it will be quite early in 2012 when we see the first one at Planning Committee stage.
I hate your negativity Vic's - I don't hate you though, just your "this won't happen, that won't happen" attitude; it will happen, unless anything untoward or unseen, stops it.

roger;
you will know as in other areas of the constituency that frustration does mount, and this sometimes can result in negative comments.
but these usually are born out out of frustration of being fobbed off so many times.
i share views on the planning depts lack of vision and have said so in other posts, but im hopeful this scheme takes off as it is the best we are going to get at this time and its better to support this than have the present site.

If there were a couple of companies in Burlington house with maybe 20 employees, so that there were lights going on and off, would everyone be in such a rush to be fobbed off with the worst plans yet for the DTIZ?

I admit that the current plans may not be the best, but with Burlington House and the multi-story down one of the biggest costs (and eyesores) will be out of the the way.
All the land will be in the same ownership with the infrastructure in place, so any future improvements to the site will be a lot easier for the area to evolve. If it is successful then there will be knock on effects into the surrounding area and the rest of the town.....

Well said Paul, no good living in the past and listening to the doom and gloom merchants, let's all look forward with optimism

There's always a little truth behind every "Just kidding", a little emotion behind every "I don't care" and a little pain behind every "I'm ok".

We can all look forward with optimism like we done for the pass 30years or more but will it happen this time, well like I have said before "It is just wait and see" I hope this time that I am wrong and it goes ahead" But---
