The DDC Anti-Social-Behaviour Unit, became the DDC Community Safety Unit and they work closely with the Police.

I realise you have become very frustrated with alexander, but his was a simple question after you made a comment on where he had been.whilst a lot of us may not agree with alexander, getting personal doesnt help your cause.

Keith, I was only trying to make the Dover country-side look more welcoming to visitors, and thought I was doing the right thing.
I'm utterly confounded now, and am afraid to report it to anyone, lest I get into trouble.
But it was shocking what I saw along the concrete pathway.
Also in the concrete building with no windows a bit further along the same pathway, where it seems people can enter. If children got in, which they could quite easily do, they would be shocked at what is pasted on the walls.

alexander;
purely on the issue of grafitti, try reporting it to this community safety unit
which can be found on the website.
just because some one disagrees or gives alternative views doesnt stop you reporting it.
sadly across the dstrict i see grfitti every day some of it not very nice at all

As I have said feel free to report it to whoever you see appropriate, or try and approach a landowner via the Land Registry, or get up there with a scrubbing brush, or speak to the council, or the White Cliffs Countryside Partnership who may know something, or CGI who may actually own the land as the own a lot from Farthingloe over to the clifftops (yes CGI do own some "White Cliffs" as far as I am aware over on the old Lydden Spout Gun Batterysite), or Natural England who I believe keep maps of the open access public land, or phone a friend, the choice is yours

Been nice knowing you :)

Well let's try this one out:
as we're talking of improving Western Heights, how's about devising a plan-of-work to remove, or rather cover over, all offensive graffiti on the Ancient Scheduled Monument?
One can't scrub it off cement walls with a brush, and probably from doors neither.
However, it is manageable, doesn't require great expenses, and possibly a project in this sense could be presented to DDC and to English Heritage.
It could be a starting point among a couple of possible proposals to promote the Heights.
Could this be among the proposals to be taken up at a future meeting concerning Western Heights? It could promote the local image to the public visiting the area.

Where are you proposing to "cover over" graffiti then Alexander? Not Farthingloe I assume as that isn't part of the scheduled ancient monument?
You'll need to approach English Heritage as they own most of the areas that I have seen the worst grafiiti (also some of the CGI property is bad), but they won't allow it to be covered over it will have to be removed. But the areas with the damage aren't areas available to "public visiting the area"
We have previously tried to remove graffiti on the Drop Redoubt and struggled with 'normal' remover as i wouldn't even start to remove the paint and the bricks being extremely porous it take a lot of specialist work to remove it which isn't really a volunteer job, I would suggest that it needs high pressure equipment which isn't easy given the access restrictions.
If you really want improve the area why don't you turn up and help WCCP or WHPS on one of their regular work parties, both of which regularly report their efforts to the press. Cut the grass paths you moan about, do a litter pick, regularly go up there to keep an eye on the Heights, lots can be done and is already don't by small dedicated bunches of volunteers....

Yeah, the AA sites are bare concrete anyway so they can't be painted over. That would get you into trouble, I suspect. Needs some professional/hazz-chem to get rid. Costly and not a DIY job.

These photographs show the type of stuff those of us who care about the Heights have to contend with. These are photos recently taken in the 150 year old Detached Bastion, aka 'Smokey' to many, but now just a wreck after years of vandalism, fires, grafitti and abuse. The loophole picture shows where people - kids or some of the less savory 'urban explorers' have smashed a hole to get in.
Fortunately the Redoubt has not suffered to this extent - this is probably because the moats are accessible and are regularly patrolled by dog walkers. Dog walkers are an excellent source of information and often work as the eyes and ears of the police, phoning in dubious behaviour when they encounter it.
If various groups wish to get together for a project, I would suggest clearance of the moats around Detached and the creation of an easily accessible entrance would go a long way to solving anti-social behaviour and criminal damage as shown in the pictures below. The area would become ideal for dog walkers or simply for a stroll. The more public who can gain access to the moat, the less criminal activity we are likely to see.
Tree clearance of the area would not cost a fortune. Doing nothing is not an option if we want to see this sort of activity stopped.

Hopefully permission will be given by the Tree Officer when I see her on Wednesday and by EH when we speak to them, so this can be a major project we kick off in November to try and at least get the area less concealed by trees and hopefully discourage vandalism. Sad to see damage like this

just looked through the comments on the application on the ddc website and was rather surprised at the level of support from the business community.
the chamber of commerce, bairstow eves(no surprise), a local optician and most strangely of all "london fancy box".
some of the comments should be taken with a pinch of salt as whole families post objections, each wordedly slightly different to the others.

Thank you Paul for being pro-active and for giving up your free time to meet EH officers in order to discuss a future strategy. I hope the meeting is productive. Talking, not shouting, is the way forward.
Paul if the plan is enabled by EH it will make an amazing difference to the site
