#548 - "I know that it's possible to get hundreds of signatures in a couple of hours on a topic which is of interest and concern to the local people"
You can probably get hundred of signatures for any 'petition', but it depend what you tell people. facts or speculation.... !
Been nice knowing you :)

I think what should also be taken into account is that petitions are not viewed with much credibility these days
individual letters far better way.
Of course theres also the thing, will at this stage any kind of opposition to the general theme realy make any difference?
I think not, we have as i said gone way past that stage

Paul S, if you're referring to the petition on the CGI planning proposals, the text with subsequent question was written at the top of each signature-sheet and was read by those who signed.
You are munching sour grapes.
If you thought there was undue procedure involved, you should have informed the competent authorities at the time.

No sour grapes, just suggestion someone that admitted that they don't want to read all the planning documentation that is available and said that "I have discovered that I am absolutely unaware of what is going on", isn't the best person to be campaigning to the public and running a petition
Are you going to be reading the additional 56 documents that are available and submitted this week?
Been nice knowing you :)

Keith, my original point here is that the Law has changed since early 2010, which was when the Public Consultation on the Dover Port privatisation bid started.
Meanwhile there is a law concerning the right to a local referendum on issues regarding a community.
This will have to be looked into if DfT make a decision that is clearly against the majority wishes of Dover.

No mileage
No basis in fact
No nothing....
Keith you are 100% right about individual and personal letters (not photocopied or computer generated with the same wording). It has always been the case that petitions have rightly been viewed with suspicion by decisoon makers, many people will sign anything to get away. A letter takes thought and is taken much more seriously. One letter is worth 1000 signatures on a petition.

Paul, to paraphrase texts like that has already led to a dispute when you asked me to amend an article on my blog.
I was and am fully aware that I do not want the CGI planning proposal going ahead, I am aware that many people do not want these new developments on our protected areas.
Subsequently I don't need to read hundreds or thousands of pages on it.

Indeed, Paul, perhaps the WH/Farthingloe discussion should be taken over to the appropriate thread.
Keith. the original topic is the one I've posted on. Having expressed my view, I'm not going to have it taken apart and dismantled. Should the time come for a legal challenge on a Port decision, there are appropriate offices to make it.
Each to their own view. Circular arguments here make no sense.
