You clearly, speak more openly of what you want to see from this cobbled together govt.
Sadly by action, DC and the govt realy believe in dismantling the NHS and shows by action, but won't like yourself publicly say it.
As for excitement, I'm not excited, just look for the need for a party to look after the poor who will be hit hardest by this cobbled together govt.
I don't do exitment, just gve my point of view.
I don't hide my lefty views, alhough have shown on other posts Im a little right wing sometimes

13:1372951What you and Labour always forget is that to help the poor wealth creation in the private sector must be encouraged and not be hindered. All the revenue government gets come from that ultimately. High taxes, high spending and red tape all damage business - your lot always go down that route and it always ends in tears.
You help the poor by building the national wealth through private sector activity and only that.

13:2872953Barry perhaps you could tell us what your alternative to the NHS would be and how your proposed new system would work?

13:3172954Dave1 - I would look at the continental health models for inspiration.

Dismantling the NHS
hugh public spending cuts
hugh job losses
throwing people on the dole

13:4472956Which continental system are you referring to. Please do not quote the French system which is virtually in a state of collapse with widespread discontent amongst the medical professionals.
Perhaps you are referring to the Swedish system but that is state controlled with patients paying a very nominal charge for treatment.
I am somewhat at a loss to identify which continental country you are referring to, perhaps you could enlighten us?

14:1972959Dave - I am not identifying a specific. What I do know from personal experience the French system from a patients point of view is considerably better than ours, as is the Greek and Spanish systems. What we must get rid of is the Stalinistic top-down structure with too much division between private and NHS.
Keith - the big problem with Labour is that they forget about the importance of the private sector and wealth creation and end up running out of other people's money. Labour's red tape, high taxes and high spending attitude is counter productive and when their economic mismanagement collapses the poor get hurt. It happens every time with Labour.

14:5572960Keith - you mentioned Hazel Blears earlier and how much you like her.
You might want to watch this video, I suspect you may change your mind over her.
She got caught out - a real knock-out blow!!!

15:0172962I am not very wound up about this but saw the new leader on tv this am. Am I correct in saying that:
He isnt married
I dont know about the registration mix up (but neither is it that important)
but what religion does he follow
is it true that his parents were German refugees to this country - why?
He has only been an MP for the term of the last government
None of the above in themselves are relevant but I think all of them might be if he were ever likely to become prime minister. Jump down my throat about the relvance of the above but many in this country would vote against him for these things. In such a high profile position it looks very much that Labour are shooting themselves in the foot!

15:1072964David H,
Apparently Ed's parents were of the Red Sea Pedestrian persuasion.
His parents were actually in fear of serious persecution ( which is more than most of the claimants under the UN agreement of 1951 were which has filled up the UK with a load of spoof claimants).
What's your problem????

15:3572968Barry, you clearly said that you were in favour of dismantling the NHS, you did not say that you would model it on the French, Spanish or Greek systems, which have bigger problems than ours and which are also funded by the State.
Could it be you are more in favour of the American system which puts profit before health.
Incidentally the Spanish private system only comprises 53,000 beds which is some indication of how they view private treatment.

16:0872971Dave - No I would not model this country on the US system despite not agreeing with your perception of it. As I have already said I would look to the continent for alternative models that better combine private and state. I would also like to see private medical insurance encouraged through tax relief and employers being incentivised to provide Group PME schemes. No-one should have to take insurance though for decent medical care.

17:1372981Was just watching the news item about the wrong winner being announced in an Australian model contest, reminded me of one here where the wrong winner was chosen.
Big bro has just thrown his toys out of the pram so I don't think either Miliband will be around at the next General Election, and look at who they have got left to choose from.

17:1572982What is the point in taking out private medical insurance when you cannot opt out of the NHS you are in effect paying twice.
In any event who would provide your emergency treatment, it certainly wouldn't be your local private hospital, neither would they provide an emergency ambulance or blood.
Your private medical insurance would almost certainly exclude an existing condition and would not cover you for certain disabilities so all in all what is the point. It is merely diverting services to the private sector which are essential to the public sector. After all you're getting the same surgeon, doctor and anaethetist who are mainly engaged in the NHS.

17:2072983Dave milliband just announced he wont run for shadow cabinet.
To concentrate on his electorate, and planning on ways to get back a labour govt.
Wanting to give his brother ED a clear run.
I think to be a sensible decision and he will be a valued back bencher

I would love believe you, that it is only baz's extreme views, but talk to people within the NHS they will tell you it's much wider than our BAZ.
