06:4672391As we wait with baited breath (not) for the announcement later today (BBC predict 4pm) the Bookies have made Ed Miliband the favourite. He is the brother of David (the housewives bet) and (wearing a sheep skin nose band in his hair) closely followed by the losers and also rans.
The BBC/ITV/SKY/NME and CCTV news channels quickly searching in desperation for something to report. will no doubt treat the viewing public to endless live helicopter shots of various cars arriving at some dark satanic old mill in Madchester containing the prospective new leader and those losers that will claim the race card or lack of a decent but funny sounding surname hampered their progress.
We shall have to wait for the white smoke to billow out of some revitalised inner city gas cooling tower before we are finally 'treated' to the surprising news that David Miliband has won against all odds. The other losers will sychophantly proffer their undying support for the new leader and kiss his ass in the hope of securing some Shadow Cabinet post as they declare the "mammoth task and uneviable role " of the new leader to " revitalise repopularise the party and make it a credible opposition to the demolition sorry Coalition government.
In Sundays Screws of the World we will no doubt be treated to an 'Undercover reporters expose' of how the wrongly named Betfair bribed x to take a dive. My shilling for what its worth is on a second vote between the (mili)band of brothers in the hope to increase the tension and viewing figures of the BBC. But what the heck do I know. Miliband will wiin Sid and BaryW will no doubt cast their learned opinions over the matter by calling the new leader a 'wanker' with no hope of victory at the next general election but life will go on as the family scream at me to leave the tv room and get the 'tea on'..as the ill educated political non caring kids of the future claim they are" starving and sod the tv and new leader and switch over to X Factor on the other 'Discovery' channel".

07:4572392From my own point of view I would prefer David to win, but who ever wins will im sure unite the party to be not only an effective opposition but also the next govt in 18 months

My posting above was supposed to be my attempt at a humourous take on the election battle not a serious debate...

07:5672396The momentum seems to be with the younger brother now Keef and Marek. Although initially I was convinced David would win, his lead was so large at one time, but as with other party leadership contests in the past, its the momentum at the moment of voting that sways it, and Ed is the one with the momentum... and the passion.
Remember what happened with the Tory leadership. David Cameron was the outsider initially, David Davies being almost a sure fired winner, but his hopes were dashed by the simplest of things, a poor conference performance. The delegates went asleep he lost momentum and zap, young Cameron was in.

17:2372471i doubt whether it is a good decision for the reds, ed has only been an honourable member for 5 years and the highest office he has held has been climate change secretary. i cannot remember hearing him speak though i seem to remember people on here saying that he came over wel recently on the box.
still we have been saved from the complications of having to decide between dave and dave at the next election.

18:2672477The Unions control the purse strings and now managed to get their man in as leader.
Right back to old Labour, daft left wings ideas and the Trade Union monster....

20:3472483You do not actually know that Barry - give him time to either be what you suspect or show himself to be his own man

22:2872525Ross, Labour are financially beholden to the Unions and when you break down where the votes come from Red Ed owes his election to them. Banaman won both MPs and individual member votes with only the Unions giving the majority to red ed - the figures are in the public domain. So we do know Ross....

23:5372538Yes Barry Ed Milliband won the affiliated organisation vote and his elder brother won the majority of individual members and MP/MEPs votes, but that does not yet mean he is beholden to them, time will tell.
Lets give him the opportunity to succeed in stamping his own mark on his party or failing to make a difference, it is a fool who would prejudge that and Barry you are many things but you are no fool.
