Amazing this - a thread about the clueless incompetence of a Labour Minister has turned to accusations of rascism. That is the last hiding place for the fascist left who try to close down debate and silence people.

Any thread titled Immigration is bound to come round to xenophobia and accusations of racism...eventually,especially with the constant attacks on the Poles..

I have no problems with the Poles at all and indeed they deserve respect for their war record. Indeed I am not even critical of any of the immigrants, after all you cant blame them for taking advantage of the sheer stupidity of the British Government.
"How can I put this politely? Bollocks." I can, as always, just agree with and admire Marek.

I think I will stand for the Polish Monster Mad n Raving Tea Party
Scrap income tax for anyone earning less than £25k
Scrap child allowance for those earning over £50k
Replace winter fuel allwance with energy vouchers so the old dears keep warm and not squander the money on grandkids.
Tag Pensions with inflation therefore ensuring yearly rises
Free bus passes for kids in education and old age pensioners
Re-examine the NHS and make it non political and ensure more frontline workers with inflation proof pay rates.
Make all non EU countries visa nationals.
Overhaul Border Control completely.Details to follow.
Oh and nearly forgot reduce the duty on beer and wine so our pubs can flourish and still be a part of the local community.
Plenty more to follow but need a glug of good Polish vodka brought here by my fellow kinsmen who stole everyones jobs by going for an interview and not just parking their arses in front of the TV watching Jeremy Kyle and Co.
Vince Cable eat your heart out....

AlexanderD, I know my facts thanks. I also know that many Commonwealth soldiers fought and died on our side in two World Wars. I also know that the Poles and Ghurkas (Nepalese) are both held in higher esteem in this country probably due to their high levels of courage and modesty, something the Aussuies and Yarpies lack for sure. Your very uncharitable and, quite frankly, racist views, surprise me coming from one who blabs obscurely on about Our Lady in Wherever.

I'd define the immigration policy as follows. British people have been neglected in their own Country, many young people leaving school left to rot in signing on centres, so that experienced eastern Europeans march through and get employed in the name of "equal opportunites for every eastern European in Britain". However, to neglect the very People a gov. was elected to serve, doesn't give me a reason to vote for that gov. They got their priorities wrong, neglecting and abandoning millions of people who they should have been representing. They weren't voted by anyone in order to employ and import millions of other people!

the problem is that both of the main parties ignore the problem.

Not true Howard. The issue of immigration is yet to arise in a significant way in the campaign but I am sure it will. The Conservatives have a policy to introduce annually reviewed limits in the 'tens of thousands' rather than the 'hundreds of thousands' as let in by Labour each year.

Barry, that's certainly better than Labour, however, I can't see why tens of thousands should come in every year, I can't see for which reason, as we are not an immigration country, and have millions of unemployed people!
I align to the UKIP to have at least a million sent back! They have their own country, we have ours. And we have millions of unemployed to look after. This Country is limited, and the only reason why people should come here to live - from non British populations, - as far as I am concerned, is if someone marries out of love a British person. As spouse or husband, it's always been international common law that a person is welcom, as too their children who are later born.
Or someone who loves another country and its people and wants to become one of them, and is accepted. The likes that are marching through here are neither coming out of love to a British person nor out of love to the British People, and are colonisers. Assylum seekers grab benefits, people eligable to work barge in on the grounds that "they are e.u. citizens and have the right to be here".
Exactly these should be stopped, physically turned around, and marched back!
French, Germans, Italians, are not like that, but suffer exactly our same problem in their own countries. When they come, they visibly appreciate our Country, come to visit, or open a restaurant, they are welcome. They don't colonise, and they respect us. And it's reciprocal, as British also go to these countries. Spanish are also like that, and Scandinavians, they respect us and don't try to trample us down, and don't give themselves "the right to be here". They come or go as civilised people. But that lot from the East who barge through, I hope thay will be barged back! They come with the sole intention of taking our jobs, grabbing benefits and later on: PENSIONS! They wouldn't give a dam if we started dropping dead at their feet in ourt own streets, they'd walk over us and complain.
Out with them I say!

Who's brave enough to answer that in an honest way, not in a way that expected of them.
Roger
I think the simple answer is we live in a global society, particularly when it comes to jobs. The UN could help by getting its members to agree a common framework regarding visa restrictions etc., which might have the benefit of stopping the Aussies exporting their youth around the globe whilst preventing folks from entering Australia unless they meet strict criteria (only kidding really).
As for the East Europeans, they are part of the EU and there are rules governing movement of labour; it's not their fault the EU is being run by a bunch of failed politicos who have carved a mouth-wateringly overpaid job for themselves at our expense.
We also must remember that despite the global map not being as red as it once was, we had the largest Empire, and all our colonial friends were given the right to come here by our ancestors. So, we now pay the price of our greatness. Strange though, everyone hates the British (and in Britain, the English) but they all want to come and live/work here. Go figure.
As for Alexander's post, I think he is in great danger of becoming a Little Englander and needs to step back and consider his position with regard other peoples.

Wrong Sid! It's not true that all the inhabitants of the former British Empire were given the right to settle in Britain. I don't know where you got that from. Those who did come, did so until about the late Seventies, then the British Gov. put an end to further Ex-Empire immigration. I have no quarral what so ever with the British citizens who came until that period, so don't get me wrong!
As for Poland, that country never was a part ofthe British Empire.
Also, with rederence to Brian Dixon too, this is no more your Country than it is mine, and you won't be expelling me from here, not even to replace me with your precious Polish girls and boys!

Furthermore, as you will have noted, I have a lot of consideration for Italy, Germany, France, and other western Eiropean Peoples, and have no problems with pretty Italian girls living here either! I also think it's good that we have Italian restaurants here, I speak fluent Italian, and fluent German. I'm not that backwards as some might think! I also know a lot about terrible economic problems in some western European countries, Nations being eaten up alive and replaced by a "new imported people"! Don't even bother playing the racist card on me, it won't work.

in post 53 you state that d. cameron will stop large scale immigration.
just heard him speaking, only non eu immigration will have restrictions.
it is those coming in from the new enlarged eu that are the greatest numbers.
