Ive had a couple of photos just through from Scotchie himself and here we go..
Showing some of the damage above. I think Ross has a point there about getting the families to pay for the damage..but would it be straightforward like that, as there are so many sub laws and amendments nowadays that there would almost certainly be an opt out...but one lives in hope.

Why not invite the little darlings along with one or two of the work-groups? Or perhaps a general effort could be made to involve they and their friends in nature rambles, bat sighting evenings, bug hunts. Though, I dare say much of this is in hand currently. I wonder if the point could be made that there is much, much more to be seen when visiting during the day when tours are arranged?
And. Let us not forget just how much money 'we' have saved over the years in having bigger and bigger school class sizes, fewer text books and in using all the spare air-time on television to entertain the young from an early age. So much has been saved that some tax is no longer thought worth chasing and collecting, many more shiny armaments are bought, used-up and bought again and oh-so fast trains leaving town at all hours and parts thereof and, last but not least, all those poor, poor bankers that have been rescued from their folly. A few feral children is such a small price to pay.
What a boon too for recruitment to the armed services, "Come, tear down the fabric of some foreign civilisation...lots of Sun and sand!"

This is a sad story that these youngsters have to do so much damage, especially after we have had a good news story of the girls doing their sponsor event.
The volunteers do a great job they must be upset that their work is ruined in this way.

I am sorry Jan, but they did next to no damage. I am sure there have been many armies and navies over the years that have tried their level best to do damage and yet the fortifications persist.
While many, rightly, bask in the glow of the positive news stories and comments, none can expect such publicity to act only as they desire it should.
I recall what happened to the landlord of a murder victim, just because he looked vulnerable his life was turned upside down, to say the least. I'll bet all those involved were trying to get a positive result for that murder inquiry by inviting news crews to visit and to talk to the neighbours, yet much harm, useless harm, was done.
Letting-rip on whole sections of youth identified only by their address (something they have NO control over) is social vandalism in itself. As children effect their environment in the only way open to them, often destructively, as seen from 'outside', so grown men and women find support flying to their side when they too pick upon a section of the (our!) community least able to stick-up for itself.
Better to attempt to harness the energies of these same youths to help Phil, Paul etc. have a real effect and a big effect on the rock and concrete and better for the grown-ups to turn their wrath upon that section of the local community charged with arranging the affairs of the local community; the slimy self-satisfied politicos.
Politics, again! [perhaps I should have written that as a warning at the top of the post?]

Rather than a boot camp, good Keith, perhaps the idea of appeasing the youth through communion with nature.
I still keep to my campaign that one day the youth will be guided to green pastures, where community farms and orchards will be planted and tended to, under the caring guidance of loving elders.
The youth will learn how to plant a tree, tend to it and watch it blossom. One day they will see it bear fruits.
They will dig a plot in a garden, and watch the green plants grow while tending to them.
Pips, I hear you all say! Pips indeed. From pips grow trees, big trees.
The youth will one day be those who work for the upkeep of us and of their own children.
Despair not, Fair Kent, your Youth is loved from High, not despised!
The Fair Lady has you at heart!

Following on from this story..Kent Police have filled Doverforum in directly on progress ...They are investigating after the interior lights were damaged at the Grand Shaft in Dover as shown in the pictures above - the Grand Shaft as we know is an historic staircase linking Snargate Street to the Western Heights.
Officers were called on Sunday afternoon (15 April 2012) by a volunteer from the Western Heights Preservation Society who had been working at the site reporting that the covers and tubes from lights had been removed and smashed on the ground.
A 12-year-old boy was spoken to near the Grand Shaft. A further three 13-year-olds, two boys and a girl, were stopped in York Street and later spoken to under caution.
Officers are continuing to investigate the criminal damage and anyone with information about who might be responsible is urged to contact Kent Police on 101, giving reference ZY/10510.
Good to have the information coming through from the Police directly to us here on Doverforum following us breaking the story. Will lock this thread at the top again for a further time because of this police news.

RE-Post 46 Tom it really does not matter how much damage there was done, these children were old enough to know they were doing wrong.
Also in talking to the Police I know they fined DoverForum good for helping them get their message and infomation out and across to the wider Community.

The WCCP already do excellent nature events and Green Gang events for younger children. This talk of rehabilitation and addressing their concerns - the mind boggles. If an oik smashed up my garden causing hundreds of pounds of damage, the last thing I'd want is to invite him round for a spot of planting and hedge trimming with a cup of tea to show him the error of his ways. Who would? Or perhaps that's not touchy-feely enough?
Did next to no damage in the Shaft? Granted, the fabric of the Shaft is intact, but is that really of any point? Light fittings and fixtures were ripped out causing at first guess £500 of damage if not more. That's all tax payers money to fix. Paul narrowly avoided having a bulb smashed on his head - a few seconds later and we could have been looking at a fatality.
As reiterated, the overwhelming number of kids are brilliant, just look at the Carnival Courts, Cadets and even our own volunteers to name a few. No-one is tarnishing all youth here with the same breath, just an out of control gang of yobs who deserve to be taught a lesson concerning repercussions and consequencies. Great to see Kent Police addressing this.
Thank you to Kent Police (and PaulB) for keeping us updated.

Sorry, not been on for a few days... how awful after such a good news event and all the hard work. Hopefully if they have any decency the talking to they got from the police might have stirred some element of remorse.

Phil, the angels in Heaven rejoice over every lost lamb that is brought back.
A good shepherd would leave the 99 safe sheep in the valley, in a safe place, and go over the hills in search of the one lost one.

Ah, yes Phil. Could have been a veritable blood bath. If the only youth worth breath require random approval perhaps abortion should be extended to as late as eleven years or so postpartum.
Why is jumping up and down in condemnation such a good thing?
All this over £500 of 'taxpayers' money. And so, so little over the time, effort and hire of a flat-bed truck to clear away rubble dumped by businessmen just trying to make ends meet.
I'm sorry about your light-fittings, but I will not hate. If that makes me the wrong sort of PC, so be it.
