speaking to the parents!!!
i hope they will be insisting that they recompense w.h.p.s for the damage.
if not they should be(apologies for the chronic cliche) named and shamed.

On the 22nd March 1862 Private Havard of the 64th Regiment of Foot was lashed fifty times on the parade ground of the Grand Shaft Barracks after being found guilty of six accounts under Court Martial. As he was dragged away, he asked for more.
The parade ground is still there...

Yes, that's what they need a good lashing. I bet that would stop them doing it again.

that's what i admire about you phil, you are not hidebound by modern liberal thinking.
I can understand why he didn't confront them but I can only applaud his restraint - it must have been a real challenge to restrain himself. Yes, name and shame and pressure the coppers to charge and punish them - it is right for the crime and right for the kids too. They need consequences if they are to learn manners. And YES to the front page idea!!

I am glad the police know who the young horrors are, I thought I better not use the word that I wanted to use to describe them.
I hope the police drag them and their parents to the police station to frighten the hell out of them or possibly to their assembly at school, that is if the school has one. A little humiliation can work wonders.
Well done Paul for keeping your temper and obviously giving a good description of these young vandals.

Phil, we need a regiment of soldiers back on Western Heights, there are barracks in plenty.
Perhaps the young are becoming bored and feel abandoned by society. We should listen to their concerns, they may be reaching out to us and asking for a more caring generation to guide them.
I certainly hope they will not get beaten by their parents, battering children is awful.

Why use such emotive words for a slap which never did the majority of children any harm. A slap is completely different to a beating or battering.

Jan, if a child reaches out for pity after doing something silly, would you slap him?

Agreed totally Jan.
Most kids aren't like this though Alex - it's just this godawful thuggish element that gives teenagers a bad name. We have some brilliant volunteers who are very young who are practically ambassadors to their age group, and I'm sure most voluntary groups can say the same. I'd hope that most of their class mates will be shocked by their actions. A stern talking to and hopeful dawning realisation of the potential consequences of their actions is what is needed.
At least Paul is OK and probably scared them off. If he hadn't been around the damage may have been even worse as they would have rampaged unhampered.

Well done Paul for intervening in the proper way to prevent it continuing.

Shocked to say the least, I'm glad that Scotchie was not attacked verbally or otherwise by the little darlings, as now the police know their identities he may want to bring charges.
Charged they should be, for malicious destruction of property and trespass as well as covering the costs and the hurt that Scotchie has had to endure. Name and shame them is a must, the time and work that volunteers have put in to see it all destroyed on a whim.

For legal reasons the children can probably not be named.

This is very disheartening news..really dont know what to say that hasnt already been said. After all the effort made last week by all the team up there and specifically the three girls who did the mammoth climb to raise funds..it is such a shame.
The three girls Tess Kelly and Sam. Let us hope that their effort wasnt in vain.
But following on from the other thread, the other story also, about the shelter in the Folkestone Road and the continual damage...is it just a sad fact that we just have to budget for destruction these days?? No matter how abhorrent.
I will put a link through to this story from our frontpage to draw as much attention to it as possible.
ps: Have now added a quote on our frontpage from Phil as well as the link to this thread here.

Oh No !!
I can't believe it; how can this be stopped ?
I certainly hope that their despicable acts will be dealt with as harshly as can be. They are old enough to know the difference between right and wrong and they are (obviously) old enough to do the crime, then (in my view) they are old enough to do the time/punishment.
Alexander, whether they are bored and feel that they have been abandoned by society, or "reaching out for pity" is absolutely no reason or excuse for this wanton vandalism.
This is not acceptable behaviour.

These are quite good, sticking out of a top pocket for example. Useful for people working alone.

i mentioned aycliffe as it is the nearest to the shaft, our local troublemakers don't travel far, they have the tram shelter to play with.
