Peter - Charlie, any MP, can achieve more for his constituency if he can gain a position to exert more influence. This is not just about the Westminster village. The secretary of the '22 is a key party position that will help benefit his constituents.

Yes Barry but it would consume a lot of his time. I've just heard that he didn't get in, Nick de Bois beat him to it.

It has obviously consumed a lot of his time.
He is still not putting any rubbish out. I hope he and his family are eating properly!

leave a few bottles of milk and 6 newspapers on his doorstep then wait for the police and social services to kick his door in.
hope that helps.
I would assume he has done his civic duty and recycled...........

Howard, I think you have me all wrong.
I'm more the 'fry-up at the end of the pier' type.

don't be negative darren, be nice to charlie and you will be invited to one of those cream teas at the house of commons.
don't try the trick with the cutlery though, they have metal detectors to catch you on the way out.

To be honest Howard I like Charlie as our MP, he seems committed.
I just don't see why we all have to play this game where a MP pretends to live in their constituency. This isn't a comment specific to Charlie or the Conservative party, merely one about the nature of our 'democracy'

Rather sad little digs there. DT - you keep on with this hobby horse of yours. If that's all Charlie has to worry about then good.
Yes, Peter was right that Charlie lost out to Nick de Bois who is very popular.

I can confirm that Charlie is alive and well, although I do think he has lost a little weight but that's not a bad thing.
Being curious with a letter being posted through my door in the middle of Saturday afternoon, swiftly opened, it to see it was headed Conservative; I quickly opened the door to see who the offender was.
Two doors up was Charlie, so I called him back for a chat.
We agreed not to talk politics but stick to community and I have to say we got on very well.
The moral of this story is thus, I live in the middle of what is left of our mining area of Mill Hill and Gwyn visited this area many times but to see Charlie, all on his own, treading our streets, was unusual to say the least. Good on him.
Charlie is definitely not lacking ambition or the foresight to see the need to work together in our communities.

someone doesn't like charlie, this from conservative home.
Pleased that the sancitmonious and grovelling Charlie Elphike didn't get elected to a secretaryship post.
Pleased also about the execrable Christopher Chope.

I don't see them as sad digs, merely amusing observations. As I've said, I like Mr Elphicke from the few times I have met him. You will also find it impossible to find me writing or saying a bad word about him, past or present.
As I've already set out, my issue is with this absurd game of where an MP 'lives', and having biogs that aren't really rooted in reality.
I am simply questioning the difference between 'representing the government/party in a constituency' and 'representing a constituency in government'.
Having someone who is actually a part of the community rather than just a conduit for information is surely more desirable.
Remember:
"We each care passionately about the beauty or ugliness of our surroundings, the cleanliness or dirtiness of the street we live on, the performance of our local school, or crime levels in our neighbourhood. When a community sees the opportunity to improve these things, it is more motivated to act."
