You lack of understand of how government works and the difference between legislature and executive does not surprise me Alexander. There is no point try to explain because you never actually take any notice.

alex
another way of putting it is that charlie and the other backbenchers are told what to do by the government i.e. the cabinet.
the cabinet then tell us what to do.

I know what the cabinet is, Howard. Bankbenchers may be another word for members of Parliament, and in our democracy, the Parliament majority is what counts.
Anything other than this in Parliament functions would be contrary to the Constitution.

Here is a link from your second link Ray. It's called, "Government & Opposition." If CE is not one is he the other?...

The closest I got on Weekipedia to define MPs is the following:
"The UK public elects Members of Parliament (MPs) to represent their interests and concerns in the House of Commons. MPs are involved in considering and proposing new laws, and can use their position to ask government ministers questions about current issues."
The whole research I went through, including Tom's link, and especially that link, showed all the titles of secretary of State...
This has led me to the conclusion, that the very next step I must take in my complaint is to ask the Department for Transport whether I am still part of the public consultation, or whether they have eliminated me from the process.
I shall ask them to send me a reply and not to ignore me.
They can either state yes or no.
If I am ignored, then my complaint will have to be directed at this Department, until I receive the reply to my question.
Once I receive the reply, I have many democratic options open.
Until now they have ignored my two letters sent in November 2011 and earlier this year.
Ray's more civil response may well have led me to this conclusion, rather than the LOL approach. After all, laughing out loud at someone's complaint and perception of injustice is not seemly.

Tom, here's the link from your link that Alexander refers to (wonder how long this can go on!) showing the structure of the government which is drawn from members of both parties (at present) of government in both houses -

I get the feeling that Alex is not going to listen to anything until he gets the answer he thinks is right or dies of old age, I know which one I'm betting on.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

There are two kinds of back-bencher, are there not? Opposition back-bencher is one. Obviously, for the life me and perhaps unto the passing of Alexander, I cannot bring to mind the nomenclature of the other.
It was said, before I got myself into it [fools rush in...], that your Charlie was not part of, and not a member of, the Government.
While we speak only in terms of 'member' and 'government' and not 'honourable member' and 'minister' Alex and me are yet correct.
While some talk in terms of 'agricultural implement' they cannot correctly have it that their intent was 'spade' all along.

Chris, I have prepared the letter for the Department for Transport, they alone can tell me if I have been excluded from a public consultation without my knowledge, as Neil Wiggins says, or if I am still part of the public consultation.
I have asked them to reply within 7 days.
It is not for the DPPT to make these decisions.

Voting will take place in Committee Room 14 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday 16th May. There will be a brief meeting of the Committee at 6 p.m."

I would prefer Charlie to be able to concentrate on constituency affairs rather than get caught up in the Westminster village politics, and I have told him so.

we seem in full agreement that dover district needs an honourable member that will fight their corner on a full time basis.
charlie was tipped as a high flyer some time back so it would be no great surprise if he secured this position.
