We all have been saying pull the building down over many years now,and the powers tell us it will be done, but it is still standing there and will be foryears to come yet.

As you know well Vic, the reasons for BH still standing, are many and various and DDC have done all they can; the due-process is on-going.
We all know there is a lot of (natural) cynicism about DTIZ and BH, but all efforts are being made.
There is a slight delay because the Hotel will not be a Travel-Lodge but Holiday Inn Express and an amended plan is being done, but the delay is not years, but maybe a couple of months on the previous one.

Paul and Howard I'm really not sure of your point here, denying that taxpayer's money has been spent or wasted. This is what I posted yesterday.
Thats the problem I have Paul, DDC has acquired the land ie spent taxpayers money, but nothing further has happened.
Now as you point out, DDC bought the land using money given by SEEDA, who are/were a govt agency, they distribute taxpayers money. So what has happened is DDC has been giving taxpayer's money and they've thrown it down a well.
I'm sure Paul, with your interest in the Western Heights, you could think of better things to do with £10m.
By the way thanks Roger, if the place is deemed uninhabitable that would explain the rates situation.

Would one call over ten years a slight delay.it a very big no to that.
You are saying now Mr Walkden it will be only a couple of months now before works start.
We have heard that so many times only to see it still standing.
It will be there in four years time, each time I have said that it turns out true this time will be the same.
We will see in May the blues losing seats at the county elections, and one of them will be a Dover seat, and the blues have only theirself to blame for that.

I don't see it as "wasted" as it is valuable asset with a good value even if it is sold on for housing

It will be interesting, if the tories lose control as Vic predicts, if Roger is still as optimistic about DTIZ.
The best thing for all concerned is to shelve the plans, have a breather and a rethink and start again, because at the moment, for whatever reasons, its going nowhere.

We have seen over the years many millions of pounds wasted on drawing up plan after plan only to see it all go up in smoke, said it before not all of it is down to the D.D.C. but alot is,also one big help would be,dare I say it yet again geting a new planning dept one that will help and support Dover ,get rid of the old school tie gang.

Paul, of course its wasted, the money was invested years ago, further money has been spent and not a penny returned.
Do you honestly believe that money could not have been put to better use?
Vic is spot on.

Of course Paul my main point was not whether or not it had been wasted, but the fact you claimed it wasn't taxpayer's money anyway.

After 1st April The Chief Excutive will head up the Planning Department .The whole structure will be changed.
I think Vic is reffering to KCC elections .Not DDC

Strange according to Roger there's going to be a delay because the new hotel is going to be a Holiday Inn - the one that is going to be knocked down was a Holiday Inn when first built.

Good point Ray
Reality is always funnier than fiction, this is an absolute shambles.
Incidentally Cllr Nicholas, who currently heads the planning dept?

I'm perfectly happy for things to happen that will attempt to regenerate the area so....
Ok David..... DTIZ plans all stop tomorrow... what do you want done with the site and how will it be paid for ?

Why strange Ray ?
The extant planning permission for DTIZ was for a Travel-Lodge, now it is no longer to be one, a planning amendment has to be made that's all.
Vic. I wasn't saying it will be just two months before works starts (I don't know when work will start), I was saying that the delay will only be extended by a couple of months - as far as I know.

I said county elections but we will see by-elections over the next two years and we will see the DDC lose seats, and they do not need to lose many to see the power go from blue to red,but that will not help.we need to get rid of both.Vote public in that care about the Town and district and not a party,Also do not have to toe a partys line, and we are seeing alot of that at this time, dare I say Whitfield where the parish council is not geting a say on what happens to the parish, not even allowed to go to the meetings about their own parish. And as a parish cllr at Whitfield I can tell you this this very true, our chairman is not allowed to go or take part at any meetings but our two blue district cllr are, again I say blue cllrs.I could and will over the next few weeks tell the public about how parish councils are in the dark about what is going on in their own parish, yet by law under the Localism act of 2011 which I am looking at right now,District council must work more with parish councils and the said parish council must take part in all meetings about the said parish.
It does not say all parish councils apart from the ones around Dover it said ALL PARISH COUNCILS,so where do go from where we are, only one way and that is with the pen on voting days, and lets make history by geting rid of both the main partys.

What I want to happen is the site is for it to be developed the way DDC announced years ago.
Like many others, I have no faith that the current administration is capable of fulfilling their promises. Sometimes you have to cut losses and start again.
Insanity is doing the same thing time and again and hoping for a different outcome.

Not saying the process is strange Roger, just weird that Holiday Inn are coming back to a new-build hotel having in the past deserted an existing hotel that's now due to be knocked down.
