To paraphrase the conversation....
One of our 70yr old volunteers who lives on her own when her bins arrived, "I dont want those I cant get them up and down my steps"
Bin deliveryman, "well you have to have them"
This lady very seldom swears but telling me the story this morning she said " I dont bl**dy well want them and I am not going to have them they can stay on the street for all I care"
Most of those I have spoken to have said they are too big for the amount they have.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

they are too big for any household, surely they are designed for business needs?
good on the lady for standing her ground, the problem is it will get complicated with a determined binperson and possibly intransigent bureaucracy.
i would suggest that she contacts one of her district councillors to assist her.
There is a quiet feeling about intransigent bureaucracy.....
If they persist without commonsense and care....DDC may find a lot of bins outside their doors for their rubbish

Just phone them up and tell them you don't want them. Remember there is no law compelling anyone from having these things.

As a District Councillor for the Maxton, Elmsvale and Priory Ward, if any one in the ward has serious concerns about the wheelie bin monsters, please email me (lindenrog@aol.com) and I will take it up with DDC.
No guarantee of course that you will get them taken away, but many already have.

Will the DDC follow some other councils and refuse to collect black bags and conventional dustbins?

With all the 'moaning', how much of the District doesn't have problems ?
Been nice knowing you :)

Most I suspect Paul and those of us with genuine difficulties have been given boxes and purple bags

I was told 85%-90% of the district will be getting them,in Tower Hamlets with all the problems.doors opening up on pavements Hills etc it will be lucky to be 30%
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

Has anyone taken a walk through Balfour Road since the arrival of the pods?
It's quite hilarious really with the pods reaching halfway up the front windows of those houses crammed together taking up every inch of space in their front gardens.
It's all turning into a bit of a green nightmare for folk isn't it?

We've had our new bins for three weeks and have now got used to them although we are fortunate to have an area where we can store them away. I feel sorry for the people who just simply have not got the room to store them, surely common sense should kick into play for them and an alternative system apply ie smaller bins provided.
