Very sad/bad state of neglect by the owners/residents of those properties. This is what I want to follow-up on after our successful clean-up in the alleyways.
The next "informal" Priory Forum meeting is this Thursday at the Malvern Pub (top of Malvern Road) - all interested people please do come along.

Am I missing something???????
The properties look fine to me it is all the bins that look wrong.

I'm talking about the neglected gardens Jan - and some of the houses are in quite a bad state of repair too.
The photo above is along the Folkestone Road, just up from the newsagents and it is a disgrace.
I agree that the bins are not attractive and add absolutely nothing to the street-scene, in fact, in many instances, they have a very negative effect.
Roger
As this thread is about the bins............and, I think Roger Walkden is the councillor for this Ward....Priory Ward, what area does it encompass?
The amount of bins along the Folkestone Road...the defunct pub Engineer end etc...is completely stupid and unsightly..............
Folkestone Road, is actually becoming reasonable one again, and this lot comes along
something sensible.................yes, the commonsense gene should be activated.....

mr norman
roger is one of the councillors for maxton, elms vale and priory ward but i suspect would have had little say on the siting of the bins.
a select band of councillors that form the cabinet at whitfield would have been advised by the officers where the bins would go.
roger has mentioned in the thread that he has many complaints and is trying to answer them.
i agree that the sheer number is unsightly.
The bins are an environmental EU dictate....
You WILL have the bins....HE HE.....councils all around the country are dealing with it....
Oh Lord...."a select band of councillors that form the cabinet at Whitfield"
So many....like the bins

The main problem with Folkestone Road in this respect (but not the only one of course) is that there are too many houses that are HMOs - Houses of Multiple Occupancy and if every home/unit has to have two big wheelie bins and a food bin, then for a house that is split into say five units, then that will be 10 wheelie bins and five food bins and there are lots of houses that are like this and some close together.
There must be a sensible solution to this; the current set-up is worse than silly, it is a serious blight on the street-scene/landscape.

Roger now perhaps you will see what I was saying when I was told to keep quiet by your friends on the Council.Every Cllr that has had the bins delievered in thier ward is snowed under by complaints, yet I was told and you may remember sorry for repeating myself,85%-90% of all properties will have the wheelie bins! When asked who would decide who would not have the bins,I was told the Binmen, when I asked who would decide which Disabled Blind Aged people would not have them and I was told the Binmen or the Councillor,to laughter from your side.
They are too big for most people, too many for most people, there are too many steps/hills in Dover and in 50% of the properties in my ward they cannot be used as they have no rear access and thier doors open up on the path.I was out in Lower Road River the other day for the Chairman's Civic service, nice green pretty area but on one side too many steps on most of the properties on the other tiny or no gardens. Many of the bins were placed on the pavement, not sure if they were disguarded or if that was the only place people could put them.
I am not opposed to Wheelie bins, they are brilliant in SOME places, but who ever decides need to look at the property and who is behind the door,to see if they can manage them.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

Well we got our boxes the other day - blue box, green box and purple bags - but no black box for paper
I am working on the premise that I can still use the paper recycling bag we used to have

I finally got a response yesterday from DDC saying that I would be "re-assessed". All sounds a bit ominous!
Anyway, just a few minutes ago I heard my garden gate open and heard the lid gone down on my new (empty) bin. Looking out of the window I see the dustcart checking all the bins in the road and picking up black bags.
I didn't put mine out - it's not bin day! Methinks a call to DDC is in order.

Put the bins out late last night right up against the wall outside our house. I was very annoyed to see that the binmen having emptied said bins, just left them in the middle of the pavement completely blocking the path. All the little children going to St Richards Primary School had to negotiate their way around them practically ending up having to go on to the road.
If I had left the house early this morning they would still be blocking the pavement. I wish the binmen would be more considerate and put them back against the wall out of harms way

Could someone please give me the correct e-mail DDC regarding this bins...
That is before you get them....so you can plead your case as to why you should not have them...
I have been given to understand that if you do not use them, your rubbish will not be collected....

all got a bit confusing on the d.d.c. website mr norman, a short while back you could just type in your street name and all the relevant information as to what the collection plan would be was there.
someone asked me today to check their road and i could not find how, plenty of general information but not what i was looking for.
