Well I never..geez they fooled me..I was nearly weeping in tandem.
That's kind of like the trouble the BBC got into by faking stuff. It might add to the drama but when you find out you've been having your chain pulled well its not good. You could feel emotionally cheated on that one, but on the whole the event was marvellous...so you wont get any grumbles from me. When you consider the portraits painted of pre event doom and gloom by the newspapers and indeed Panorama well it all turned out to be nothing to write home about. Much pre ado about nothing! The event was brilliantly handled by Ukraine and Poland.
By the way Harry is right there re that point about football heritage and training. I was saying roughly the same thing earlier as it cant be a co-incidence that all these players are all great, all Spanish of course, and all playing for the one club...Barcelona..the few that arent playing for Barcelona play for Real Madrid and once again that team is entirely Spanish save for one or two...Ronaldo for example. But particularly so with Barcelona, who off the top of my head appear to have only one foreign player, but okay that guy is fairly useful...lol! They have a terrific stream of fab players constantly coming through the ranks.
When Arsenal played in one big match recently , cant remember which one now , but they only had one English player playing...the rest were French and whathaveyou.
that is right about too many overseas stars in our premiership but read an interesting article in the "sun" by terry venables.
he made the point about the passing game that the spaniards play is much the same as many premiership teams play.
yes there are many foreign players in those sides but also english players.
he was of the opinion that once roy hodgson has got his feet under the table and a few friendly matches to play he will change the style and gradually assimilate the right players to fit in.
They have a long way to go Howard though....but there were good signs all the same.
Some experts were asking or indeed saying on the radio the other morning that this Spain team is the best national team of all time. It is already acknowledged as the best European national team of all time...but the only other challenger to their all time supremacy is the Brazil team of the 70's when guys like Pele, Rivelino, Jarzinho, and other greats played for them. Were they the best or is Spain?? Those Brazilians were the stuff of dreams.
Boy could that Rivelino take a long range shot!!...its sad that you dont get those Bobby Charlton or indeed Rivelino long range goals any more.
