I for one cannot wait for Sunday and if it goes to penalties I think our luck may just roll on.
- 22 June 2012 08:40179397Well the first of the knock out games hit our TV screens last night and it turned out to be a substitute for mogadon. I certainly slept well after it. I suppose the only bright spark in it was when super - ego scored the goal. Portugal did produce flashes of brillance but they were few and far between. The dour Czech Republik turned up.. but from the word go seemed to be playing for the penalty shootout. Portugal eventually put us out of our misery when Rinaldo got the one and only goal. The Czechs didnt do themselves justice though..pity.
Have you noticed that the latest buzzword amongst the commentators this time around is "sloppy". Everyone is saying it..the pundits, the commentators, etc etc. The Czechs were sloppy, the Portugueese were sloppy, that pass was sloppy, that period of play was sloppy, that decision was sloppy!!
They havent said the fans were sloppy...well not yet anyway but give 'em time.
Could be a cracker tonight..I think its France v Spain. Put the cat out, heat up the pot noodle, and rev up the kettle.

It is actually Germany v Greece tonight.... not quite the same appetising prospect as France and Spain..so put the pot noodle back in the cupboard, save it for tomorrow night!!
Thats the real appetiser. But nevertheless tonights should be good. on paper the Germans look to have the definite edge.

- 23 June 2012 06:41179519Well the poor oul Greeks, already down on their luck, got a quadruple stuffing of sauerkraut last night and no mistake. Truly stuffed they were. The Germans didnt bail out the Greeks this time but demanded a whopping return on their recent investment. The blue and white faces in the crowd were downcast. They did score to draw level at one time...1 - 1 it was, but to say it was mightily against the run of play would be an understatement of herculean magnitude....as the poor oul Greeks didnt get a kick of the ball for the whole game.
Toward the end they got a sympathy penalty which made it 4 - 2...which makes it look like they made a fight of it, but they didnt. That penalty was odd against the Germans..the player had his back to the ball when it hit his arm. It has to be deliberate for it to be a penalty. If you have your back to it how can it be deliberate as you wouldnt know where the ball either was or was travelling to.
A classic challenge of artistry on tonight France v Spain. Sorry you are missing it Martin but someone has to pay the rent! Following on from the post above...here is a picture of our grand Eurozone leader Angela Merkel mingling in the crowd. She enjoyed the goals, waving her hands in the air and whatnot. She clearly enjoys her football and during the match was showing her human side. Go for it Angie baby we didnt know you had a human side. You can spot legend Michel Platini in there with her.
Let's see Cameron attending the match tomorrow. All this filiblustering around to make a political point is not cutting the mustard. Nobody living anywhere else cares or even knows what he is doing with his political gesture, but the English footballing nation would enjoy seeing him there. The England match is in the Ukraine, there is a political beef with the Ukraine. I would love to see them win through then take on the Germans and wipe the smile of that Angela Merkels face. The Germans are good but their defence is their weak spot.

It was a damp squib of an affair right from the off and Howard is right..twas like watching paint dry. France were intimidated and looked already beaten five minutes into the game. They did not have any kind of answer to the free flowing Spanish football. Spain of course won 2-0 but at a canter. They hardly broke sweat. Disappointing as France promised good things beforehand, their earlier games looked good and their warm up matches showed some great skills and good results. But there we are...they froze on the big stage on the big night.
Tonight England go up a level. They had one of the easiest qualifying groups but nevertheless played well. The Italians will provide weightier more serious opposition tonight...watch that Pirlo guy run the midfield.

So tonight is Englands big chance to show what it can do, lets just hope they hold their nerve and play as a team we will be in front of the telly willing them on.
