England played well against France. Just as Harry said there, best we have seen from them in a long time. Maybe old Hodgson who I think is the oldest England manager for some time, if not ever, may have a good touch. He is not as old however as the Irish manager..italian maestro Trappatoni, who makes Mathuselah look like an invigourated youth.

I remember it from 50 years ago in those comics that were on sale everywhere those days. I was an avid fan..we all wanted to be footballers those days, that was when they were lowly paid local guys playing for the local team..Melchester Rovers I believe was the team , although Im using oul memory wheels not used for an age.
England have their own Roy of the Rovers returning in the match after next in the shape of Wayne Rooney. Loved his syrup yesterday. great one. Roy of the Rovers never had a syrup though....

the thing that stands out for me is the lack of controversy, the referees seem super fit and are not easily conned by the histrionics of some of the star players.

but getting back to england, they did enough to gain a point, now if this type of play is good enough to get any better is questionable as other countries soon get used to the styl.
anyway we have a point, and can build on that, nice that this time england didn't go into the game expecting to win/draw, and realy played well, although basic and enough to get a point.
lets hope its enough to england forward.ALL POSTS ARE MY OWN PERSONAL VIEWS - 14 June 2012 15:10178075England play again tomorrow night but in the meantime tonight we have the Irish teams next excursion into the fray. Sadly they had a bad loss the other day so confidence is low particularly as they are playing world champions Spain. They already have one foot on the plane home and the other in the stadium..so things are tough.
Spain are good no mistake. More than a match for the lowly Irish team. So I have written to the camp imploring them to use that tactic of old...yes you've guessed it...the long ball down the middle!!
What you need for this strategy is a very tall gangly old fashioned centre-forward like that Gomez fella. The advantage with the long ball down the middle is that it can aerially bypass all those ace Spanish midfielders at a stroke..or at a kick I should say. They all come from that hub of footballing excellence at Barcelona so we can only stand and weep at their dexterity and fluidity...but the solution is not to give them the ball.
Easier said than done but hopefully manager Trappatoni will take benefit from my considerable experience in this matter and employ this method forthwith...otherwise Ryan Air will be around directly for the luggage!!
On a more serious footing.. other football news today sees Harry Redknap out of a job. Gosh..the life of the football manager!! Only a few weeks ago he was near top of the league with Spurs, being touted in a media frenzy for the England managers job
...and now he is on the dole. If football managers werent so well paid I'd be brokenhearted for him..

They didnt follow my grand plan as suggested above, but carried on regardless and once again they were a goal down in 3 minutes. That's the Irish speciality it seems, handicap yourself right from the word go and see if you can make a comeback.
Unfortunately the Irish team were ball chasing all night and couldnt get a kick..the long ball down the middle suggestion cant work if you dont have the ball in the first place. This has got to be the worst Irish team I ever remember. One longs for the best days..those under Jack Charlton.

The tournament so far has been a pleasure to watch with the only team to "park the bus" so far being us!Audere est facere.

Yes England go centre stage tonight in a game they should win against our fair skinned yellow jumpered northerners, hailing from that land up there near the arctic circle where the midnight sun causes more of a dazzle than their footballers, but of course anything is possible in this competition...anything could happen. But you English guys got a soft draw, while us Irish guys were thrown into the lions den with the elite and got savaged. There is no justice!
