Possibly a dangerous statement there Brian, unless you can back it up.

I would be charitable and say that brian meant the bloke who did the bum work last year.

I would not want Brian to be sued by the councillor or officer who awarded the contract. Nudge, nudge, wink, wink is not always enough to avoid a libel action.

Well after the meeting today it was agreed by all cllrs that there will be lights, not as many as we had hoped but the Town Council will put in £30,000 and that included putting them up the lights and taking them down.
Because of the work that has been found that need to put the previous lights and fittings right it will mean reduced lights this year, but we are lucky in some respect that a sum of £10,000 has been put in by a well know Tower Hamlets man in his will.
This includes putting on the lights switch on event as well, and everyone present thought the Town needed the lights but because of time restraits and the fact that Christmas lights happen around this time and because most of the specialist contractors are busy, not as much work that needs doing can be done, but will be reviewed after Christmas to see how we can extend the lights in future. For this year the lights will only extend from Cannon Street to Biggin Street.
As I said this is an emergency measure because of financial and time restraits.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!
Thanks JHGit will be good to see the town lit up

Hi John - catch up with me sometime soon - I have some ideas via LRCF members of how we might extend the scope of the lights over the years

Tonight at an extraordinary meeting held at the town Council, it was resolve to recommend from the meeting that was held in september, that the christmas lights will go ahead on a smaller scale they will start at the top of pencester and go down to the market square, this may rise some criticism but to go futher this year would have been to expensive. The light switch on does not come into that but will be sorted out separately, It was also agreed that after christmas it will go on the agenda to be sorted out properly.

Pencester to Market Square is hardly worth the trouble.

Absolutely Mark.............
The Town Council should get a bit more inventive.....but looking at the two miserable trees in the plant holders either side of their main doorway
You can see what hope we have......................useless....................
Inventiveness....

Dover Town...your Gateway to England and your Kingdom.....
Is going through a very bad patch.....really bad, and no-one really wants to know the town...
However, we are in your kingdom...and your Mother....God Rest her Soul....really loved it around here, and stayed here whenever she could.....
Could, you possibly....find some money and let us have some for our Christmas Lights...which we would like all around the Town.............. that is one hope

Charlie you say a couple of posts ago... "most of us feel - dont bother"
We have to bother Charlie, Im glad they have rescued some plan to light up the centre of town this year. If they didnt bother it would be dark. Some people keep trying and without them things would be even worse. Many of these guys are members here on this forum. The same people used to be photographed over and over and we used to get some criticism for that, but it was the same people everytime trying to do something, to improve things.
