You have to differentiate between the chart and the statistics. Any decent statistician could make a chart that presented a different tale. The figures 'may' be taken from official statistics, but the chart is from the Spectator.
Anyway it seems the Spectator could do with employing statisticians as opposed to cartographers. If you replace 'public sector' with 'Ryde' and 'private sector' with 'Sandown', you have a pretty good map of the Isle of Wight.
The only thing that confuses me is the position of Osbourne House.

Barry, do you really believe that "private recovery" graphic?
They must be blinkered to publish that.

Based on official figures from the ONS Alexander and, yes - it does reflect what is happening.

barry, all the time that the goverment are cutting jobs from the public sector unemployment will go up,unless the private sector start taking people on in full employment things will get worse.once goverment and the banks get there act together it will stagnate.

The graph is entirely accurate.*
A steady decline in Public Sector jobs since the last election. (tick!)
A meteoric then steady rise in 'employment' in the Private Sector from the same time. (tick)
BUT.
It marries the loss of real jobs with the 'gain' in part-time, short-term, (so called) apprenticeships and work experience/internships.
*i.e. It is in-line with Government rhetoric.
Ignorance is bliss, bliss is happiness, I am happy...to draw your attention to the possible connectivity in the foregoing.

BarryW.
Firstly, the number of Job Seekers has risen, not dropped, so no massages for them.
Let's say I agree with you that it's "best hope for anyone losing their job is a more healthy economy and what needs to be done has to be done". Your words.
How do those people and his/her family survive. until the healthy recovery actually happens?
You're keen to use experts in their field as reference, what about Tony Dolphin's statement below?
"IPPR chief economist Tony Dolphin said: "Long-term unemployment is the hidden crisis of the slowest ever economic recovery in the UK."

Suprising how some questions go un-answered and have the effect of ending threads.

Allways happens when the gobbledegook runs out and there is not a graph available.

Oh gawd - the little gang of lefties who hate it when the facts do not fit their strange concept of the world still in denial of the damage their crazed ideologies do to people.
I have explained any anomalies - these are occurring because of more honest counting and a shake out of the benefit system. The graph is official figures and no whinging will change that.
'defend the wealthy' - no Keith, not at all. I just see the truth that you are not going to solve this countries economic position by punishing the wealthy with high taxes. In fact the kind of redistributive policies you advocate fail time and time again and are at the centre of the problems we all have.

BARRYW;
I'm realy unsure on these terms left or right, i have seen the posts of people who feel they are of the lefty tag, but to my way of thinking they are far from it.
so i feel this old lefty tag is realy an open definition, and govt after govt has tried to destroy these tags, and pretend we are all in it together.
