And an FA Cup draw away at Concord Rangers who are managed by Sammy Moore.

Does that mean we will hear about Dover Athletic on Radio Kent all the time instead of Gillingham? They seem obsessed with it!

Great start, marred by a late Harrogate goal and a sending off. Only 3 started from the previous line-up. Shame they'll be camped in Essex for a couple of weeks now.

Seems that they made the right decision in bringing back Hess as after the England performance and result in Spain last evening Gareth Southgate will not be available for some time. Pity as he has invented a whole new style of management and it works.

Hess will have to be given the time
But I'm sure his orders will be to avoid relegation and without major change that wasn't going to happen
But hopefully an expected win in FA Cup will help

This isn't going very well. Maybe Hess should register as a player and direct the game from the midfield. If nothing else it'll introduce some anticipation into the crowd as we await his inevitable red card.

Huge win today given that teams immediately above us dropped points. Finally into double figures too, though still 6 points off 20th. A more attacking frame of mind, and we could have had at least a couple more, one from Taylor (I think) hitting the bar in the first-half and a poor finish from Effiong in the second when he'd done all the work. But Lokko's and Reason's goals were taken well, and it was a good team effort. Allen and Effiong need to pass the ball more, our defence still looks shaky, and a couple of players are too lightweight for this league, but a definite improvement. We were fortunate to play Maidenhead right now; they offered little in attack. Better teams would have punished us.

A fair assessment Granny.
I thought that at times we actually played some half decent football and possibly enough to suggest that there may well be light at the end of the tunnel? A long road ahead for sure and no doubt there will be twists and turns, but I now have a modicum of optimism for survival that I didn’t have a few weeks back.

Saw a small group of Hartlepool supporters in Pencester Rd earlier awaiting a bus that will take them to the theatre of dreams at Crabble, have to admire people who travel so far to watch their team play in non league football.

109 fans Hartlepool in total.
Deserved win, if a bit nervy at the end

Unexpected win today.
1-0 down to a top team, down to 10 men (useless referee sent off the wrong player, may not have been a red card offence), but came back to score a 2-1 winner in injury time.

Whites were still playing Father Christmas when they offered an early be-tinselled ball to Maidstone, who quickly unwrapped it and stuck it in the net. For the rest of the first half they looked as though they were sleeping off a large lunch that had rather too much liquid in it. A couple of changes for the second half and the eleven dull yellow spuds emerged as golden roasties. Three sparkling baubles were offered to the Maidstone defence, and all three were accepted. Plus a late red nose for the visitors. In other words, 3:1 to Dover, and out of the bottom four.

What's the point? Well, one actually, and a fairly decent one against the league leaders. It might have been different had Effiong just leathered the penalty early on; instead he looked like he'd just been called up by the headmaster to sing 'Jesus Wants You for a Sunbeam' in front of school assembly. Whites weren't terribly incisive, but defended well and deserved the draw. Orient didn't tear it up either, but their no. 3 certainly did a job on Effiong. I thought we sorely missed the injured Taylor, but are looking more like a team now. Decent crowd, too: 2275 I think, which makes for a 2000-odd average for the Christmas period.
