18:2283609How about the question I asked? Who decided that Stewart Dimmock and Mary Davies stood in Tower Hamlets when they live in Aycliffe, did they think oh we could stand there or did the Alliance 'Party' decided ?
The reason why I am asking is that we get accused of taking orders from above (not true) so were they pushed into Tower Hamlets or did they volunteer.Who made that decision and why?
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

19:2683618You have all accused each other of lack of integrity. It was amusing to start with but now it's got really boring. Give it a rest, it does none of you any credit.

00:1883645John, Stewart and Mary chose where they wished to stand. There was no 'pressure from above', we are democratic not autocratic.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

09:2283659Fine Chris but did they choose after Aycliffe was allocated to someone else! Otherwise we could have had 4 Indies fighting for Aycliffe and none in Tower Hamlets so there must have been a pecking order or instructions on who fought where?

16:2683704John, no 'pecking order', the candidates decided where hey wanted to stand. The elections you refer to were eight years ago and, if you recall we ended up with an independent alliance councillor who had to leave the council after failing to attend meetings. This led to a by-election and we had a Labour councillor who also left for never attending meetings (so invisible in fact that I cannot remember his name). Then I got in and I am sure my wife sometimes wishes I was not at quite so many meetings.

10:3483780i know his name
and the indy who left
knew them both well
the indy told me a lt about the goings on at alliance group meetings
lets hope though chris as david forgot you stood as the official alliance candidate in the district elections which goes against davids original posting that the alliance party only supports candidates in town council.
lets hope he doesnt forget the election lol
next may we have to assume that our david will be a tory candidate as that remains unanswered, where does the alliance go then?

15:3383812Keith, I am surprised to hear he knew as he only attended one of those (and it was not the Dover Alliance at the time). The Alliance is just that, an alliance, and one man does not an alliance make. Should David decide to step down, and the decision is entirely up to him, the Alliance will go on and we will wish him well in all his future endeavours. You would be surprised how many think national party politics have no place in local government. It is all very well saying what national policies you will support and which you will object to during party meetings but the electorate want to know what you will do for Dover within the remit of the council you are standing for.

sounds from chris p's last post that it's a done deal.
i am surprized as i thought and respected david's view on keeping politics and natIonal parties out of local councils, i dont fully share his view but respected it
now it sounds like all that is to be thrown to the wall
