It means that it isn't a detailed application; there are certain things that need to be in the outline planning application - numbers, types of buildings etc. but the detail of the actual plans will come later if this permission is granted.

I see that English Heritage have requested detailed evidence that Western Heights is the only suitable site for this Hotel. Am I correct in saying that there are already plans approved for a 'quality' hotel near the cruise terminal making this a difficult stipulation to fulfill.

Not sure about the hotel but I do know that farthinglow is 11th on the list of suitable places so begs the question why not develop the other 10 sites which are more suitable.

The meeting went on till quite late and it was passed by 8 for and 2 against.
Much discussion took place on the benefits to Dover, the benefits to the historic sites and creating as much surety as possible on the the stage payments for the Heights restoration - and the damage to the AONB.
It is envisaged that it will take around 7 years to complete, with £1 million paid, as work - any work, commences.
I do believe this will be a catalyst for future inward investment and regeneration with many of the applications that have slowed almost to a dead stop, will now be started up again - as stated many times last night "Dover is open for business".
You can't please all of the people all of the time, but this will bring enormous benefits to the people, businesses and the other historic sites and attractions in Dover.

I did not know about this meeting, but I would not have gone anyway,Mr Walkden is right Dover needs all it can get,But having seen what has happen in the pass,I will wait to see if it gets off the ground. I am now seveny when they go on about taking seven or more years to see it all done and it yet to start it makes me think will I still be around to see it all done. But it is good news.

Maybe completion will be celebrated the same year as Burlington House comes down!

Mrs Stevens hope I am right with saying that sorry if I am wrong, I think Berlington house will see me out and not me see it out. I think that will stand beween seven and ten years yet,I first said in 2000 that it would still be with us in 6 years time and it was then I said again it will be still with us again for 6 more years or more and it is so there is no hope that it will come down in the next six years.same goes for all the fencing around the town even more will be added to that, it is very sad that all this could happen to a main town and port with all its history that goes with it.

#108 Roger, what is this £1 million you mention? Is that in addition to the £5 million heritage money already offered?

Mike - the £1 million is the first of the stage payments of the £5 million, so it's not an extra amount on top.

It is good to see common sense prevailed, I assume the consent was for Farthingloe as well as the Heights.

@ Vic, Mrs is correct but Pauline is better. I have always thought of you as a bit of a Victor Mildrew but on this occasion, I'm afraid I have to agree. I really hope I'm wrong but I will never fathom how such an important port town/Gateway to England/area of historical importance and of oustanding natural beauty, can be reduced to such deplorable shabbiness. I feel the same faces have been in charge throughout the decline and one wonders what their thoughts on the situation are. When I have asked how come Deal can welcome visitors to a display of flowers as they enter the town, but Dover is nothing but an eyesore (apart from a stunning castle!) to it's many visitors, I have been told it is about how the Town Councils allocate their budget. If that is the case, what is Dover spending it's budget on. I appreciate there are a few planted up areas but it is almost like a token gesture and if Collette hadn't taken on Connaught Park, that would be totally bereft of benches and flowers. Oh dear, have I let myself in for an ear bashing now!!

the three councils have to take some blame pauline but also some of the people living and working here should.
if we have a big event outside the hours of 9 to 5 mondays -saturdays or all day sunday many businesses are closed, the same applies when cruise ships call on a sunday.
there was a big outcry when mcarthur glen planned to open their retail units, so they went to ashford.
we get a stunning new seafront free, gratis and for nothing and people still moan saying the money should be spent elsewhere.

No you haven't Pauline, you've simply stated what plenty of us have been saying for ages.
The whole ethos at DDC is "you can't do that" instead of "let's find a way".
The same old dinosaurs repeating the same tired old excuses. As said elsewhere, please come along to a Town Team meeting, we need the help of people like you.

I agree with the Pauline, Howard and David, there are also those who belief nothing should change because they have their heads stuck firmly in the sand.
