Thanks Keith
There is about 180 documents in all which comes to about 800mb, but I am sure CGI or the Council would be willing to burn some CDs if them all if people wanted to avoid downloading it all as there is a lot there, or I could even sort out a CD if people wanted to copy and pass on.....
Been nice knowing you :)

Purely looking at the plans of the Hotel, the new designs looks reasonable, it is avoiding and retaining the WW2 tunnels that run under the area, the buildings retain a lot of trees which provide a lot of screening from the surrounding areas but still provide views from the hotel of the Castle, Channel and harbour.
Such a development could provide a higher start hotel for the area, provide the security for heritage that is lacking, and would definitely reduce the anti-social behaviour that occur on the Heights after dark....

if views are not obstructed and housing is not visible unless one specifically looks for it then cgi have listened to what people have said and made the necessary amendments to the plans.
looking good so far.

As far as I can tell so far the proposed housing along the road is all that is left up there, they will have their views of the prison and Castle, but I am not sure if they can see seaward anyway cos of the trees that are there currently

Certainly does Paul rather than 'throw it away' on an expensive one-off exercise to a national company at 'English Heritage rates', it could
Maximise investment by spreading it over a longer period of time
Create local jobs
Fill a major (widening) gap in traditional skills
Put the Heights on the national map
Hopefully get more community involvement
Ticks a lot of boxes but it needs to get a big financial kick-start....

That seems to me a long term project that meets the skills training agenda. Regenerating jobs as well as providing a scarce skills set in this area of building trade.

Paul, post 19:
On the previous Western Heights thread, I explained a couple of times that the Western Heights group had designated specific missions to different members. Some members read through all the documentation and explained the main points to all the rest of the assembly.
Other members had different jobs to carry out. One of my jobs was to await marching orders to enter town and gather signatures.
Every one in the group was made aware of the website where to download the CGI planning application in full if they so wished to.
Personally I gathered enough information on Dover Forum to know what it was all about, and viewed the maps presented by CGI in Braddon.
That said, if a person is against building 700 odd houses on protected Green Areas (SAM and AoONB) - for those who may have forgotten this means Scheduled Ancient Monument (Western Heights) and Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (Farthingloe), they need not read through the endless documentation on whether these proposed buildings would be facing North, South, have a green roof or a backyard toilet.
The response will be simply: NO, even if they were proposed in gold with a ribbon on top!

Adding to that, Paul, you have implied that I gave misleading information to people in town in order to get their signature.
Next time I gather signatures in Dover to protect our protected areas from desecration, could you please put your case forward immediately to the competent authorities if you believe I am giving misleading information to the Public?

Finally, CGI is reported to have borrowed a lot of money from an Israeli bank.
One of my points was: Western Heights is not the West Bank, we don't need any settlements there!

I know I said earlier that you can't please all the people all the time, but some appear to be Luddites.
We need regeneration of the Heights or it will just deteriorate into wooded scrubland. There is always a consequence and a price for any regeneration; the money raised for historical regeneration, will ensure the future of the Heights forever and put Dover squarely on the tourism map - then, better efforts to make Dover a destination will be successful.

Roger, perhaps you believe the petition is of no meaning. We can't just have the usual authority decision of making a decision against democratic expression.
You appear to be of the opinion that the only school of economics available is building houses up and down the country so as to bring in money. A lot of this DDC planning has to do with bringing in money to increase the budget, as was explained by Protect Kent in Braddon.
It has nothing to do with creating local jobs either, as the vast amount of jobs in building go to non-local people, very often Eastern Europeans who - by the current law - are entitled to come over and live in the UK.
There is NO programme whatsoever to create local jobs for local people in this country.
As for our protected areas of Western Heights and Farthingloe, I just simply don't want settlements springing up there, and many people have expressed the same view. And the continuous claim that we want the destruction of these areas comes from the very people who want to destroy them.

Going over old ground and we know where that went !!
Interested to know views on the new revised plans for the Heights from anyone...
Been nice knowing you :)

The revised plans for the Heights are a great improvement on previous, several areas of proposed housing completely removed and a (potential) large fund to repair the heritage. With one more revision we may end up with no proposed building and an even bigger heritage fund to restore the area, then the plans will be perfect!
Because of the inordinately large file size the plans have been provided in I have not yet had time to examine the Farthingloe ones, but the suspicious minded out there may think that is the idea...

Mike - I have used a tool on Mozilla browser called "DownloadThenAll" and extracted all files overnight,
I will be looking over the Farthingloe documentation after the Heights ones as that is my priority. I don't think we can avoid all development on the Heights else there will be no linked plans between the Heights and Farthingoe, thus money to be spent on the heritage
What are your views on the current heights plans as they stand now?
Been nice knowing you :)
