I often wonder how people here illegally survive. They need to show a work permit to get a job, can't claim benefits or register with a GP and can only access emergency treatment from hospitals.

There has been little change.
Loads are working below the radar in the 'black economy', loads are working on cloned IDs as 'they all look the same to us'. That's just two sub-sets for starters.
I've said it before and I'll say it again the
ONLY way forward is to have a biometric ID card to access
ALL services.

And of course it's not only the "illegals" that we have to worry about!
But don't worry, I'm sure that those returning now realise how misguided they were in the first place and will be keen to rejoin the civilised society that they are so appreciative of.

You're probably right Brian, but wouldn't it make a nice change just for once to have a government that actually had leadership qualities, one that fought OUR corner and didn't wave the white flag and cave in at the first given opportunity on most issues.
Still, we can dream I suppose, but thats about as close as we'll come to it!

Came through Calais last night and was astonished to find that the French have reduced the road between the Belgique border and Dunkirk to a single carriageway. This means the 'illegals' need only block one lane with debris and themselves to bring traffic to a standstill and increase the vulnerability of drivers. It is apparently to funnel traffic to a point where the police can easily check vehicles but I haven't seen a police presence in excess of a year.
