Therein lies the problem Brian, no-one can prove where they originated as most seem to have "lost" any paperwork that would prove ID. The East African gangs that rioted against each other would have criminal records in their own country so will just tell a pack of lies to the authorities.

"French officials say the town is overrun because the UK is a land where the penniless could "live like kings".
The word about easy-to-obtain benefits and "paradise" conditions for migrant families has spread to the world's poorest countries. It is estimated there have been 12,000 attempts to cross the UK border via Calais in the past year.
The lure of a new life across the Channel has seen families live in unimaginable squalor at the camp in woods near the port. Numbers are swelling by the day.
Calais deputy mayor Philippe Mignonet said: "We want the border to be moved from Calais to Dover and Folkestone for one month so Britain understands how difficult the problem is. We are not asking for immigration in Calais.
We are taking action at a national and international level to tackle this issue and the organised criminality behind it
James Brokenshire, Immigration and Security minister
"Why is England so attractive for migrants? In their original countries people are saying that if you go to England you will have everything - a house, money, a job; your family will be able to join you. Right or wrong, it is what is said. They might leave with three pounds but, when they arrive in England they can make £50-a-week on the black market, so they are happy - they are kings".
We have only ourselves (our governments) to blame.
Roger

The problem seems to be getting worse and truckers are being physically threatened, the suggestion is that other ports are utilised.
For those that don't have long term deals on the Dover/Calais crossing operating costs must rise and to use Cherbourg would increase transit times in most cases

We are continually told that they are all destitute and totally reliant on food given out by local charities, now we have this tame response from the Calais authorities.

Brian has just given me an idea.
How about a new law that says those immigrants who arrive here expecting to go straight onto benefits have to join the military, that might put a few off.
