My wonderful neighbour has just been and gritted our path, we had salted it but the grit makes it so much safer.

I must be the only one putting out water for the birds around my way, I put two bowls out before going into town and both empty upon my return plus the feeders had been visited.

snow falling and laying up my way. 1 inch plus at the moment, cars are running at snails pace, bus service in doubt.

Looking at The Guardian website (I must be desperate!), whatever weather we may have had, others have had it far worse.

Leisure centre closed, DCCA closed, Tesco sending staff home, maybe only local staff being kept on ?? ...so may catch reduced cooked chickens and bits maybe, anyone want to brave it?? About 2 inches up here at Whitfield and cars struggling up melbourne a little bit, buses still making it, snow still coming.
STAY SAFE ..STAY AT HOME IF YOU CAN.

Saw a funny sight earlier when a bloke(not a child) was coming down my road on a sled with his Golden Retriever to the side of him, tail wagging and trying to kick him off.

With the benefit of hindsight, overground railway traction that relies on 3rd rail conductivity has its limitations. Curiously, there appears to be quite a few people who believe there is a magic wand to cure this overnight and preferably sooner. Mind you, I do miss the class 47 diesels and remember when they were new.

A lot of heart warming stories came out of the big freeze with businesses opening their doors to homeless people at night and providing them with food, close to home Bayliss coaches had cancellations so made themselves available for getting shopping for the housebound or getting people to their GP surgery. I knocked on the door of a 90 year old neighbour and asked whether she needed anything down the shops, she said yes so I gave her my shopping list - no point in both of us freezing to death after all.

Been snowing up here in Whitfield since 8.30 though it hasn't settled on the road yet. (Famous last words?) Looking at Traffic England cameras, it seems to be patchy across Kent. Wiltshire seems to have had much more with some railways closed.

Much the same as where I am but prolonged heavy snow is forecast overnight so we should see a covering of the stuff tomorrow morning.

I don't think it stopped all day during daylight hours. My plans for tomorrow have already been torpedoed as I don't fancy trying to get the car out.

We got off lightly again.
Look at today's weather in Dawlish, with trains still running.

I realise we have been luckier than most with the weather recently but that wind cuts right through like a knife. Had to put fresh water out for the birds this morning after the bowls froze over.
