On one of my posts you will read that I said just that,it all hangs on what happens at Dover, and we know what that will be,D.H.B pulling out all the stops now get the port better and better over the next year. The port will stay in the safe hands of the Royal Charter,And keeping up with any changes that might be needed.

Yes Paul, you are right, it's not a requirement, but the powers are there. Again the link I posted above gives insights into the thinking of successive Secretaries of State since the Act came into force and into the policies of the governments of various colours since then. It's the best synopsis I can find of the historical background.

Vic is right, there is absolutely no legal requirement for the Port's Trust status to be changed or privatised, there is no law saying Trust ports MUST be privatised. No matter how many laws and acts Peter pulls out
Happy New Year, Peter!

a few points to make on that link from alex.
a) work was promised to start in december on the castle st/woolcomber st site - it has.
b) the whitfield development is dependant on developers building which will only happen when the economy improves.
c) the original c.g.i application would never have been accepted.

Lets blame labour(paul w) remember paulw you campaigned as a tory locally with our baz to privatise the port, public opinion told you that you were wrong.
Alexander;
you seem to be of the opinion I have not made representation(not correct) or have no knowledge of the situation, believe me I do, and like a lot of Dover people we are all looking to see how all this unfolds.
Your posting alexander appears to show your lack of understanding, but hey why let facts get in the way?

Keith: "lack of understanding".
You can't invent laws that do not exist.
Has it become a policy to tell the Public that Trust ports have to be privatised? (Assuming that your term "lack of understanding" refers to my posts stating the contrary.)
There is no such law Keith.
Anyway, if I'm not mistaken, with the Government's decision on the Port, the public consultation is ended.
Privatisation has been rejected.
Do I have to be told now that I don't understand anything about the Port? I did campaign for it not to be privatised after all!

Fourth para: "Miss Hawkins, the Labour prospective parliamentary candidate for Dover and Deal, said Mr Goldfield had lost the support of the community, ferry operators, workers and the Government, and should make way for someone with a "fresh way of thinking".

That is strange Keith, I saw the following lot just below the advert for the snooker club
....Miss Hawkins, the Labour prospective parliamentary candidate for Dover and Deal, said Mr Goldfield had lost the support of the community, ferry operators, workers and the Government, and should make way for someone with a "fresh way of thinking".
Dover and Deal Tory MP Charlie Elphicke said he did not believe it was the right time for people to "seek retribution", but added he is "over the moon" that the sell-off plan has been scrapped.
Following the Deparment for Transport's decision to reject full privatisation last Thursday, Miss Hawkins said: "I very much welcome the terrific news that the Government has seen sense.
"Now it's very clear that Bob Goldfield - as well as having lost the support of the community, workers, and ferry operators - doesn't have Government support for his plans either. What we need is a new and fresh way of working from now."
Miss Hawkins added that although Gordon Brown's Labour government had been looking at different ways of managing trust ports, the local branch of the party "has always completely opposed it"....

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.
