Thank You Barrie.
If my postings offend you, I can always stop posting. I seem to be the only Councillor posting on this, which is not a problem to me, but if it is to others on here, just let me know.
Yes, I am a District Councillor, I don't know why you think it is a slur on someone to be called a Councillor; I put myself forward, back in 2003, to try and work to move Dover foward, my big concern is (always has been) the length of time it is taking to get there.
I will say once again, it is not the (District) Council that is causing the delay though.
If you want to see democracy in action, why don't you come up to a Full Council meeting ? If you want some answers on certain topics, do you look on DDC web-site ? How would you like your anwers given ? Please don't say "in a public meeting at the Town Hall" - (I don't think such a meeting will benefit anyone).

Absolutely Roger, god forbid you should give the great unwashed who voted you into office a chance to voice their concerns in open and honest forum...

Mr. Walkden, your postings don't offend me in the slightest, and I certainly wouldn't want you to stop posting.
I am merely trying to point out that we have different opinions on the matter of the timing of this petition, and I thought this meant we were engaging in healthy debate. I am sorry if my attempt at humour regarding the 'politician' comment upset you, I said a similar thing to Mr. Newsam in the past and he found it quite amusing.
I have asked questions of DDc in the past, and was stonewalled. I became so frustrated that I employed a solicitor to act on my behalf, and he was also stonewalled and basically told me that it could take a long time to get anywhere and did I want to keep throwing good money after bad.
I have read some of the patronising and offensive comments made about the public by other DDC councillors on this and the other forum, so I know that person's opinion of the voters too.
I, amongst others have given up trying to get into 'Fortress Whitfield' by the usual means, so it appears a public meeting may be a way to start pulling down the barriers that the voters perceive to be there.
This is in no way an attack on you Mr. Walkden, as I don't know you and I certainly don't think that you have done anything that you wish to hide, and although our opinions differ this really isn't personal. As you say, you appear to be the only councillor who is posting on the subject.

I welecome the Public to attend meetings. The only ones that seem to attract the public are Planning Meetings. The DTIZ has been discussed at these ..Back in the late eighties there was a plan to sell off part of River Rec for housing .People turned up some had to stand in an adjacent room. The then River Parish Clerk addressed the Council .The Councl listened and no houses were built.
At another meeting I think it was to do with Poll Tax . .A well known figure was thrown out only to turn up later and removed again,We have had public meetings and mostly they have turned out to be a slanging match,
Treated with respect Councillors will listen. My name and telephone number is published .I get residents turning up at my house and not during office hours I chat to people on the bus and Im always approachable. What I cannot do is breach confidentiality.

as you said in the past Mrs. Nicholas, 'all this twittering on a local forum will get him nowhere', in a very patronising and offensive manner.
I shall now stop posting on this thread and turn my attentions elsewhere, probably to the Laureston landslide.

The council ran a vote thing not long ago ,asking the public what they thought of the council,
The poll come back with a glowing report ,,every thing roses, the council doing a brilliant job, value for money and the public wouldn't mind paying a bit more
Now this poll wasn't very easy to access,, or to vote on for the general public ,I think.
Me and others suspect the voting was manly dun by people working for ,or friends family of them with a vested interest in every thing looking roses .
I may be wrong.
But when we have things set up like this ,it doesn't instil confidence that things are running good
Maybe its time to let people have a say in a better to access format as to what the public think of the council.

Thank you Barrie.
I am always happy to talk about anything - on here, or face to face; I will always be honest and give my personal view, not a party view. What I have posted on here about the petition is my own view, I have not been asked to write anything at all by anyone.
I was surprised to read on your posting above, that DDC Councillors have been offensive in their comments on the public - we're all members of the public in one way or another.

Madam Chairman, your reference to 'pubic meetings' merely confirms our suspicion that DDC has the electorate by the short & curlies.

I am writing in respect of your enquiry for information held by this Authority received on 19 February 2014 and to confirm that we have completed the search for the information that you requested. You were seeking a detailed breakdown of total expenditure on the DTIZ project from July 2002 to date.
The total cost of the DTIZ project for the period from 2002/03 to 2012/13 is £8,484,585, of which the largest element is the cost of land and building purchase.
In order to be successful, a project of this type requires comprehensive site assembly. At the outset of the project the DTIZ site was fragmented, with a high number of separate property and commercial interests, and this made site assembly extremely complex.
Through opportunity and negotiated acquisitions, Dover District Council now owns the majority freehold interest of the site, comprising circa 2.98 hectares.
The bulk of the project costs have been met by central government and its agencies. The cost of the project to DDC has been £2,229,921, which is approximately one quarter of the total cost. In addition the developer has made a substantial investment in their own right.

Getting a bit heated on Facebook with people claiming that the petitioner had links with UKIP prior to joining them at a later date. Some have noted the fact that he joined social media sites purely to get signatures then leaving straight afterwards.
