Thank You for your erudite and very civilised (I wouldn't expect anything else) posting Alan. I signed that petition for River school and was very happy to do so.
I don't think Sue quite said exactly that, it is true that a cause will have more power (in planning terms) if the same number of people send in letters, than put their names on a petition, but it did get the desired result, so well done.
I still firmly believe that it would have been better (from a DTIZ point of view) to have sent in questions to DDC asking for them to be forwarded on to Bond City to answer.
There has been no unnecessary delays by DDC - officers or members. At every major stage where a vote has been required by Council, it has been supported by ALL members - completely cross-party.

Roger, as one of the landowners involved in the DTIZ land assembly project I have a different view of DDC 's competencies. On one occasion I even received a personal visit from the Leader to apologise for maladministration on the part of his officers.

If there has been incompetance by a particular officer, that doesn't make the whole of DDC incompetant surely ? I don't know if that particular officer is still with DDC; there has been staff reductions, but because I don't know who the officer was (please don't post it on here if you know) I can't say.
There's always a range of competances in any organisation, but don't blame the whole of that organisation for a problem caused by one or two people.

Howard,post#62..With respect, your response is rather cynical and negative..Howard you are not normally gloomy..Is there any way I can help you?
Roger, the council should not be afraid of the petition..For a long time the regeneration of Dover has been a thorny issue..Look to the future not the past..The people wish to be involved and it is a positive involvement..Too long the unjustifiable description of the citizens of Dover that apathy reigns has been proved wrong...With respect,Roger the petition will help Dover to move forward..
Alans' contribution to the forum was enlightened,I wish I could be that articulate !

I took this yesterday and remember telling my mother when the eyesore building that occupied the spot was demolished, so it's not a case of Where Is It but When Was It?

# 67 and # 69.......have to agree ...when you consider DTIZ was put before DDCouncil
and voted through unanimously 14 years ago and we are still in this situation frustration will be enormous.
# 45 ....# 26...# 38...all sounds familiar ....# 39...having proposed DTIZ to Dover District Councillors 14 years ago I totally agree.

Do not forget Dover was the same when the reds last had power, why did they not do anything? do not put all the blame down to the blues. As I said this meeting will not get my support for what that is worth.

Roger, I am not trying to tar every council officer with the same brush and I know several who are diamonds. I am merely speaking from personal experience.
More of this anon. But don't expect me to name names. I'm sure PaulW and Nadeem know where the weaknesses are.

I wouldn't want you to name names Peter, especially on here.
This most definitely should not be seen as a Conservativer blame-game. This current plan/application was started by the previous group in 2002 and continued when the Conservatives took over in 2003. All Councillors have been involved at every stage.
I still maintain this petition is not a good idea - the DTIZ boat does not need rocking from a DDC viewpoint.

Roger, when will you and the other assorted egos up at Whitfield realise that you are elected by the Dover people and that you are accountable to the electorate, not to [your] egos? For too long DDC have operated in secrecy with a
'we know best' attitude, the time has come for [you] to face [your] public...

Hello everyone. Roger this is absolutely not about rocking the boat, I am not intent on making trouble. The 2010 Local Government Act was introduced by this Conservative Government as part of their "Big Society" initiative to encourage greater transparency by those who chose to nominate themselves to represent us and by the officials who answer to them. This local council and its leader are barely visible to the electorate and need to enthuse about matters of local concern through free and open meetings, and certainly not at pre-submitted Q & A sessions of a relatively un-influencial Scrutiny meeting.
It is a democratic right that you are critical of and that surprises me. You may not like the petition for reasons of your own but I trust you totally support openness and transparency in government as I am sure your colleagues at DDC do. I reiterate my earlier post, if this Council has done everything possible to bring about the St.James development they have nothing to fear from a public meeting and everything to gain.
Regards, Alan.

I share the views of Alan
but do wonder if theres a political motive behind it, which I hope isn't the case

Keith, you see a political motive behind nearly everything posted on this forum with your red or blues did or did not do this or that. Just because people are photographed talking to each other prior to meeting a political bigwig does not mean they support that political party.
This petition is about trying to make the DDC more open about what they did or will do in the future instead of treating us the electorate like little children. The people of Dover are fed up being treated like idiots that is why so many have signed in such a short time, 264 signed so far.
