If Corbyn ever becomes PM, Ms Abbott is a dead cert for the cabinet as they once had a long term 'relationship' and are still friends.

There is a lot in what Rippers said there, the tone was set at the recent Labour leadership election when anyone with a quid to spare could vote for the new leader. Tories couldn't believe their luck and signed up in droves to vote for the candidate least likely to win an election, then young "Wolfie Smiths" saw their opportunity to infiltrate an establishment party an turn it in the direction they wanted. The party seems to be going back to the Seventies with rallies, lapel badges and pointless slogans and we all know the result of that.
The last two lines in post 60 explain why Clair fought so hard for the high speed link to be extended to Deal as she did explain that it helped people buy second homes there!!!

"She added that the policing costs - involving 400 officers - were significant and she did not expect "to get much change out of £250,000."
I wonder where the police were then, obviously they were not controlling the many marchers that caused so much trouble, also inconvenience to those who live in the town.

I saw the police earlier all very young none under 7 Feet it seemed then later they had their helmets and big sticks and we know the nett result.
This evening the "Express" have released photos of the library being stormed with damage done, staff and users terrified and all the responses have been about which side was to blame.

But the police did a great job apparently, Barnes reckons 400 officers must have been at least 2 officers per idiot.

I was asked by BBC Radio Kent to participate in the phone-in to the Chief Constable this morning. I said that the decision to ban or allow protest marches looked like a box-ticking exercise. He replied that it is nothing of the kind, it's based on experience, intelligence and flow charts. You couldn't make it up.

With a response like that from the Chief Constable it makes me wonder how he ever got to the position he is in.
Obviously he and/or his fellow top ranking officers lack the relative experience when dealing with the kind of marches such as we saw on Saturday.
Peter, did he explain why they allowed the two opposing groups to have their events on the same day which was obvious to so many it would result in trouble.

As there was a flow chart we must have imagined it all and there won't be a bill of £.250, 000 for "policing". Getting to the top in the service has been more about internal politics than anything else.

Went around the Folkestone Road roundabout on a bus earlier and I had previously thought reports of damage to it must be exaggerated. No is the answer, only someone with proper equipment( not the sort one can hide in a pocket) had been used so much for "stop and search) Should anyone want some missiles for the next time there are still pieces of masonry available for collection.

Brute force and old cement Howard, there were also quite a lot of loose and broken ones on the roundabout for the last couple of years. You should look at the amount of cap stones missing atop the high wall along York street that were ripped up.

Here is the incontrovertible truth that Kent Police done a great job on Saturday, must have been in touch with their Cologne counterparts.

......Alan Pughsley said the policing operation "ran as well as it could do".....
I can think of several words to describe him and his policing methods on Saturday, none of which I could use on here.

Chief constables are just people that climbed the greasy pole without blotting their copybook. There was one up at Middlesborough years ago that rocked the boat by nicking villains, suddenly no-go estates became safe so they soon found reasons to get rid of him.
