Interesting article that as I have been told by organisers of the Market Square rally that it ended peacefully at 1 pm but Sam Lennon in his very detailed account said that people from the rally left at 12. 30 to go to the station looking for trouble.
A good selection of organisations were present in Market Square as seen in the photos which begs the question as to why local councillors think it a good idea to be associated with some of them. I suspect some of the anarchists from last weekend in Calais were present yesterday.

Has anyone done any serious research on the links between supporting right wing causes and early onset baldness?

Sam must have damned good eyesight too see the whole length of Effingham crescent and see who threw the first stone!
Captain I'm concerned I might be becoming right wing!

I know Sam he lives down the road from me and he is a very objective reporter and the two factions were clearly separated so that it would be clear who threw the first missile.

Meanwhile here is how the anti fascists turned out.
I think these might be wearing 'burkas' which one reads so much about nowadays

It should be illegal to be wearing anything that covers over the face on these kind of marches or demonstrations, those that do are clearly out for trouble or have something to hide.
I also believe wearing the niqab and burka should be banned in this country.

Yesterday many on the Far Right side also covered their faces so their intentions become clear.

Radio kent just reported that the trouble blah blah when the far right attacked a pro immigrant rally, amazing how biased a supposed unbiased organisation can be

Who do we blame indeed?
Was it the far left?
Was it the far right?
Of course not! According to Charlie blame Mr Plod (most of whom actually enjoyed yesterday's little 'bundle'!).

Top plod are saying that they didn't have the powers to stop the march which I don't accept. Ordering one side to hold theirs on a different date is not the same as stopping a march full stop.

Agreed Howard.
Even if they are held on the same day the police have the power to keep both sides well apart. All the pictures I have seen show there were plenty of police around, some apparently doing very little.

In essence Kent Plod not used to demos turning 'lively'.
Met, with half a dozen different demonstrations some Saturdays, much more experienced with infiltration + snatch squads for troublemakers.
Main cock up Sat was not having bottom of Flk Rd sealed from opposition to start + lack of control of high ground overlooking York St.
Rest of march to E Docks was text book control. Well done!
Unfortunately after a number of semi coherent 'speeches' by so called fascists howling at the moon at their own ignorance and at their inability to understand the world: a bit like Iraq, there seemed to be little 'post conflict' planning.
The crowd should have been escorted over the same route back to R'way Station for dispersal but appeared to be allowed to fragment with groups heading into centre of town. (V important to make sure demonstrators play on your terms and territory of your choosing. It's here Plod had lost the upper hand on both counts)
All good fun though and not too much damage/injury!
But then what do I know about anything?

That is the impression I got Jan, the amount of officers in town yesterday seemed similar to a London protest. I didn't stay for the action but having seen so many photos and videos it seems that the very well equipped force could have done better to keep the factions apart and out of missile throwing distance. I realise that it is easy to be wise after the event but there was so much notice given of the intentions of both sides.
Hopefully local councillors have learned a lesson and will realise the consequences of their actions.

There was nothing fun about yesterday!
But you are right about the lack of control from the police.

Watched the whole thing from up on top the bank of Folkestone road where there were lots off locals and some kids and people wondering how on earth they get where they wanted to get too. There was a few up there just for causing trouble and lobbing stuff (youngsters just wanting in). It was once the anti fascists had been corralled against the Alma many of them climb up the bank and also got behind the hedges to start throwing . This is when I went elsewhere as the far right obviously started throwing stuff there also.
My main concern was that the police were out done as the anti fascists got past them to go and confront the far right on Folkestone road. They then didn't take into account the ease of how the far right could get through Dover College or the fact that there were ways to get up the bank once the far right started their march. As there were confrontations between the anti fascists and far right up the bank also.

Howard post #36 .Which local councillors were involved ?I thought it only involved the Right and Left renter mobs.
Did anyone hear what Ms Diane Abbott MP said in Market Square? I notice that a Green MEP was spouting off in Market Square..
All the people who took part, should be ashamed of themselves.

As I said on another thread Pam Brivio, Ben Bano and Chris Precious were in attendance although there may be many more as I wouldn't recognise the newer ones. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly early on when I was there but a couple of rent a mob groups were there with their banners.
