They have been losing touch with their core support for many years now and we don't see anyone that has had a job outside politics in the Front line. The voters are aware and UKIP came along and played on it. The BBC were interviewing John Mann MP earlier and he was saying the same thing and named 2 young Northern MP's that came from a working class background and were very talented. A look at the Red front benchers doesn't throw up any great talent and charisma and I would hope they choose one of the people mentioned by Mr Mann and give them the full 5 years to turn the party around.

Frank field would be a good ruder man to rebuild the party on a working class EU out direction. But labour probably will not reform from the rot and start listening to their core voters.

He's not been part of the in crowd for many years Keith, doesn't fit in with the younger pro EU set. Maybe once the party realises how much uncontrolled immigration hurt their voters they may have a rethink. I would like to see Alan Johnson stand in temporarily until the new leader is installed.

No surprise there I suppose but the new leader will inherit a wonderful opportunity. The Blues have no excuses now they lead on their own they have to carry out their pre election pledges of £12 billion welfare cuts and £13 billion in departmental spending. This time it won't be the poorest to take the hit but the vast majority will lose something a great chance for the leader of the opposition to play the shocked card and point out that the nasty party are back.

The labour party will have to decide who they wish to represent.
The working class voters are blue labour old labour British.
this is the voters that shifted to ukip and conservative.
new labour are ethnic Promoting hand ringing European loving trendy London Westminster village, their core voters are protected pensioned up public sector.
Nothing wrong with public sector pensions but don't expect others to pay for it all .

Nothing wrong with public sector pensions if they are funded. But ours aren't, which means that future generations are saddled with the cost.

Some interesting young people here that would give the Reds a lift in the eyes of the public but I suspect it will be a familar career politician that gets the job.

I got all excited when I saw Rachel Reeves on the list but when I saw the picture I realised I had confused her with Rachel Riley.

They will go back to Blair Tory party 2 .exactly why they got the boot in 2010.
The last thing the labour party will do is to listen to their ex core voters

Peter
I believe that Scotland will turn Red very quickly when they realise that for all the hot air from the SNP leadership Cameron will not be influenced one iota and austerity will get worse.
Keith
The Reds can only regain power with a centre left style, Blair realised this all along and led them from the wilderness to 3 terms in office.

Yes Howard, very true but by then DC will have ditched the Barnett Formula and Chris Grayling will have sorted the West Lothian question, making Scottish Westminster MPs powerless to interfere in English matters.

I wish they had voted for independence, given their oil and share of debt and let them get on with it, move the nukes and base elsewhere. Think it will be a long time until labour get back into Scotland even with a shift in policy. They need to ditch the unions and be a party of the people not union lapdogs.

Blair road to power on the back of people's disappointment at the Tory 18 years government.
It took voter 3 election for them to realise new labour was wet Tory.
Low wages and open doors finally convinced them to stop supporting labour .

They open the flood gats in 2003 ,I was working in London and the building sites where full of east Europeans workers and the Immigration department would never come when we called them ,in 2006 the labour party made it all legal.
