I see that the lady contender advocates that we effect BRexit by just walking away from Lisbon and all the rest of it and bypassing Article 50. I must admit I had completely overlooked such an attractive idea; must mention it to mon ami Hollande vis-a-vis the Treaties of Le Touquet and Canterbury - would save tomorrow morning's UKBF shift trudging off to France!

As expected Paul Nuttall has been elected leader and whereas Farage aimed at mainly disaffected Tories he will be concentrating on "patriotic" Labour voters in the Northern heartlands.

i think they will get it to .
for years labour have been ignoring the views of the British working class on immigration and the invasion from all the EU scab labour .

He has two things holding him back, firstly his accent, every time he speaks everyone outside of Liverpool checks to see where their purse or wallet is. Secondly is his desire to privatise what is not privatised now in the NHS. He has been busy today deleting stuff but Labour will use his quotes wherever he stands. Nuttall only polled 11% in the constituency he was born and brought up in last time.

Another one resigns and it is looking like a clean sweep for the Conservatives in May.

I understand that the people of Folkestone are revolting (open gag left for Capt Haddock to quote and insert) - the Folkestone racecourse, Hythe Seafront and the lorry park proposals have upset the locals somewhat. Before Christmas, there were some marches organised against the council. A 38 degrees petition of over 5,000 people opposing the builds was dismissed by the council too - further antagonising the locals! I heard that the Sellinge Residents Association were targeting Carol Sacre seat as she has not represented their views at all and voted against the local opinion. I think the Tories will not have it all their own way. Interesting times.

All of which is true but in reality there are 23 Conservative Councillors and 7 UKIP and in May the likelihood is that the Tories will take even larger control so any peasant's revolt will come to nothing. The Lib Dems used to be the main opposition but they have just trailed away and the one noble Labour member had a Damascus moment and pleaded for forgiveness and and entrance pass to the ruling elite.

Just had a delve back into the Forum and found this photo I took back in August 2013 outside the Dover Marina hotel on our sea front when UKIP were on a roll and were holding a summit there.
From left to right Bob Neaves elected to KCC three months earlier, Sir Peter Ripley still a member here and was Chairperson of Dover and Deal UKIP at the time, Mo Elenor who was and maybe still is Chairperson of Kent UKIP.

Locally UKIP appears to be having problems with the only ones gaining being the conservatives which is not good for democracy.
We also need an effective opposition on all councils.
With the latest UKIP guy going they are fast becoming a small party of people who just turn up and when the going gets tough they ship out.
Labour will soon be the opposition again at county hall.
It's a shame that UKIP locally who got many councillors elected at both County and District didn't build on this. I
They are likely to be like other small parties that come and go, be a small voice, win a few seats here and there as a protest but do enough with this to keep this Govt in office for 20/25 years

"They are likely to be like other small parties that come and go, be a small voice, win a few seats here and there as a protest"
In other words doing what the Liberals and now the LibDems as well as UKIP have been doing for years acting as a vote for those who are disenchanted with the two major parties.

Jan,
I'm afraid In part I disagree
I had high hopes for UKIP (as did many others across the country) they could have done so much better.
Clearly showing now they are a one man party.
Since his departure we have seen UKIP nose dive
Nationally and locally.
They are seen as no more than a small protest party as you say like the lib dems etc
They could have done so much better.
Locally as the article indicates UKIP are falling apart, resigning standing again as indies
shame really because apart from Dovers general election candidate, across the country people got behind UKIP
It will difficult now for UKIP to re build this, It's reported they are
certainly very quiet in the council chambers no real speakers.
Even in our own ward in Priory it appears we longer have UKIP representation, and the party we havn' t heard from since the previous District elections.
Not looking good for UKIP or those that put there faith in them

FWIW at Fort Whitfield all three UKIP representatives have made themselves heard during both full Council and other meetings.
There are however others, on both sides of the chamber who I have not heard a peep out of (though they ALWAYS vote with their respective parties), some of them being in what can only be called safe seats and being candidates in the forthcoming KCC elections!
One suspects that these are the very people who will be up for the prestigious title of Honorary Alderman? See item 11!

What does an Honorary Alderman actually do?
