 - Paul, thank you for your kind words.I notice you weren't at the Referendum Count at Dover Town Hall.Cllr Eddy and his possee were there. They walked in, at start of the count wearing Labour rosettes .By the end of the count, they had removed the rosettes, when the vote was announced. Strange that.
In early April, I had an accident, I broke my right ankle in 2 places, which was operated on and now is secured with pins and a plate. My only political activity recently was on the 23rd June at Dover Town Hall Referendum Count .I was asked by VoteLeave to represent them as Designated Counting Agent. I and a team of 12 monitored the count on behalf of Vote Leave.Incidentally most of the team were members of other parties or non political people.A good team.Remain was represented by 2 LibDems including Antony Hook.2 Stronger In Tories. The rest of Remain Team were Labour including Clair Hawkins, Simon Bannister etc.It was noticeable that the LibDems /Tories/ Labour of Remain did not speak to each other.

 - It was an unholy alliance Peter- Tories, Labour and the fringe parties trying to con us all as they like to be part of the establishment.

Sadly it seems to be a pyrrhic victory as most of us expect Article 50 won 't happen, the bookies have odds of 6/4 on it being invoked in 2018 or later or not all, so much for democracy.

 - For a party advocating the advancement of democracy it’s not good to be exclude candidates. -
It wasn’t just Mr Wolf that was stopped from running . Suzanne Evans was also excluder in a back room stich up. The party rules were apparently changed so she couldn’t run.
 -
The N E C will probably be dismissed in a night of the long knives and Nigel and his sister will end up picking the candidate .

 - Reg. For Labour to win power in 2020.They must win seats in the South East,Home counties and Scotland because very soon there will be boundary changes.
They just cannot rely on Northern and Welsh seats.
My unbiased opinion of the Corbyn surge.

 - For Labour to win power in 2020 they need a new leader who can win the middle ground. It's obvious but the Labour Party continues to be more intetested in playing sixth form common room politics. - Guest 943 likes this

 - Just pointing out that labour took a Ukip stronghold with over 20% gain directly from ukip whereas in ashford ukip took a labour seat with 11% gain but only 3% from Labour

 - Reg.What was the turnout?
By elections are subject to local circumstances but the point about Labour's fortunes at the next general election which Paul M highlighted are still valid.

 - About 22% I think without looking,. Right about Labour though with Corbyn at the helm they are unelectable. - Guest 943 likes this - Arte et Marte

 - Peter's right in that not too much notice should be taken of local council by-elections and not just due to low turnouts.

As there are no sitting councillors involved the candidates are largely unknown and if one of them has been active in getting a zebra/pelican crossing for example then he/she will do well irrespective of political colour.

 - Don't know yet how true this is but Carswell always looks out of place in the party and wishes that he had never jumped ship. http://www.theguardian.com/politics/2016/aug/23/arron-banks-ukip-mp-douglas-carswell-tories-defeat-nigel-farage-south-thanet
