Having served my community as both a Parish and District Cllr I can honestly say that I did not profit in any way, often out of pocket in fact.
My greatest reward was helping community members thro' the red tape to realise their projects. During my time as a Cllr local people, working with such passion and conviction, were able to source help and funding for: a new community centre incorporating a health suite and youth centre, a preschool playgroup, bring two redundant shops back into life, provide play facilities, establish reading programmes at the primary school, find funding for a development worker, refurbish the sports pavillion, fit a new kitchen in the resource centre......
I could go on. I was NOT the only active Cllr and many of my fellow cllrs, with support from some brilliant council officers, made huge differences to their communities. Many continue to do so.
Some people go into politics for the right reasons, few for the glory.

Good on you Lesley
And just think if all you reds followed the advise of Mr. Ben and skinner, we would have an extra £55 million a day, to spend on uk communities ,instead of giving it to the democratically bankrupt EU

It`s called modesty Howard not skeletons.Lesley did some superb work and was one of the best Cllrs
I had the pleasure to work with.
As Leader of the Council I received the princely sum of £ 900 pa.....K Bibby is once again way of track with his innuendos
and his tar brush tactics. .

Yes whilst not wanting to single Lesley out

My money from DDC is about £65 per week. There are various meetings (Planning, Scrutiny, JTB, Licensing, Regulatory, Group, Governance, Full Council etc.) and helping/working with and for constituents.
This afternoon I attended a Finance training course at Whitfield - got there about 1.15pm and left around 4.15, so a good few hours.
Some weeks are much busier than others. Since 2003 (when I became a Councillor) we've had two pay cuts(no rises) and a freeze.

you are totally wrong in post 90 kb, no political party has any interest in the east european community as they are extremely unlikely to vote.
different in areas with a large polish community where they get involved and even have polish councillors.

Thanks Reg and Keith, two equally hard working councillors!
I have had the pleasure of working with people from all parties and those who had the interest of their communities at heart, regardless of politics, seemed to achieve far more than those who wasted time posturing and fighting to score points.
Keith, in particular, suffered some very hard times in the Priory Ward and managed to unite waring factions and resolve problems through multi agency working and good, solid members of the local community
Reg was an open , honest and fair leader which, sadly made him unpopular with some who prefered to hold secret meetings with the chosen few. If anyone did their homework it was Reg, never afraid to question and challenge the "system".

Mr Bibby, it's called respect. I have never nor ever will, follow the leader. I make my own path.

Lesley there are several words K Bibby sadly has difficulty to comprehend, respect and dignity.
Once again he has to alter or remove the offending word.....unfortunately his problem will not go away.
