OK .Paul and Reginald you got me.Hands up.
Delete slashed. Still an achievement for a twenty /thirty years old with 6 weeks electoral campaign experience to get 20,700 votes compared to Charlie's 27,000.

Peter , nothing to do with candidate, just mood of the electorate. The candidate had no time to make a personal impression, however good/indifferent the person may have been.

The conservative leadership appear to be going around in circles
They have a deal with the DUP only for the DUP to say they havn't.
Same old geezers kept in cabinet.
Boris ready to jump in her shoes deliberate in leaking reports to press hes ready.
T May lost support of not just her party, but also the country, which is a real concern with Brexit talks set to get underway.
So many differences of opinions in a very chaotic govt.
Still not long now, new leader will be in place, wonder who?

Totally disagree Paul, right from the start Stacey pushed herself on social media with great skill and gained a huge following very quickly. She excelled herself by not sidestepping any difficult questions and being unfailingly polite to people that were clearly "trolling" her. Charlie got a surprisingly large majority back in 2010 by using social media to his advantage and won an award because of it but nowadays does not debate anything with anyone and is just happy to show photos of himself together with happy voters and blocks anyone that criticises him.

We'll agree to disagree Howard. The Labour vote was good . The Liberal & UKIP vote collapsed. National events turned the tide not local recognition. She did well.

This appears to be the wrong heading, we appear to now be debating the local Labour candidate
Is this to deflect?

With respect Paul. Brian and Keith S are sensing blood of a not Strong and Unstable Conservative party .
What are the Tories going to do if the Queen's speech is voted down by Labour etc. What's the backup plan?

Theresa May has just sacked 4 cabinet ministers. 4 more enemies.
Dominic Raab promoted to Justice Minister. Raab must be in the running as Mrs May replacement.

Bob, Peter. Politics is about adaptability, doing the deal.
You get the best deal & move on.
Most parties agree on the main policies with adjustments. It is the idealistic social policy & where states intervene that divides. Consequently that is also how taxation rears its head. At what level should we spend our own money or the state taxes & runs our lives for us.

You see this is what concerns me. You have been in local politics for decades, leader of the council for years, and you talk of "adaptability" and "doing the deal".
Where are your principles? Where is your vision? What are your beliefs?
I'm sorry Paul I've said this to you before, you're only interested in doing what you have to in order to stay in power. Dover is a basket case and you publicly state:
"You get the best deal and move on".
The reason May lost a majority is because nobody knows what she stands for or believes in. I'm afraid that applies to you too.

You're right David, I've been around a long time & I started as you indicate thinking I had the power to radically changes things & walk away if I didn't get what I wanted.
You soon learn that as District Council Leader you are "small beer" with miniscule budgets & nobody is going to take notice of you shouting from Dover/Deal & how you are the special case. Everyone plays that game.
You need to go to the places where decisions are taken & get yourselves on the committees where the power resides.
You have to present powerful business cases & show you score higher than the next guy.
It's not a case of we deserve it , it's how the return will show the power brokers have got it right.
Work the system. It's the same for both main political parties.
Until you've experienced it I don't think you understand or want to.
That's reality.
Bye bye for now I'm to one of those meetings where I hope to secure two projects that will deliver job opportunities in conjunction with the private sector.
