Unlike Mr Mandelson who opined that KS could do with losing a few pounds and promptly got criticised himself for fat-shaming (whatever that is).

Speaking of which I spoke to Mike Tapp, who was accompanied by Mr Mandelson (!), in Deal High Street this morning.
I would not be suprised if he actually found guacamole on sale in Deal chippys!

Sadly there's no trace of 'guacamole' in my Polari dictionary.

Just re-reading 'All The Devils Are Here'. Having lived here almost half a century it would seem that I used to be the only non-gay in the village!

Neil
Noticed how quiet you have been (I do understand why )
I have said for some time it will be a Labour Govt and Tapp will probably win Dover
But it's what kind of party Is being elected for the ordinary person .
Starmer looks like he wants to be a light tory for the five years in office , and without major changes I would think in the five years the Tories will have regrouped
People are living in hope that Starmer will change ,but that's a seriously risky strategy
So not really much to look forward to

Deffo worth reading. Unfortunately as a bit of a bibliophile I had to buy another copy when I saw it for £2.50 in Canterbury Oxfam (esp when the shop assistant told me rather enigmaticaly that the author been found dead in his flat in Canterbury in circumstances 'as strange as any in his book'!)
Carer in middle of it now and says 'He loses it a bit in the section about Richard Dadd and Dickens' but then he gets back to the missing genitalia from dear Oscar's tomb so all is well again.

I’m being quiet as honestly speaking, there’s not much to say. We are still circling, politically; the government has all but given up and putting its entire re-election strategy into a single plane taking off for Kigali. Labour so far ahead it doesn’t need to do anything other than appear competent.
Longer term I expect a Labour Party in government to move to the left. Just like in 97, the media will start supporting Labour as people like the Sun always end up backing the winning horse. At that point, Labour will have the cover they need to move to the left while the right regroups under who knows what.

Move to the left? Doubt it Neil - there's not a lot of room to manouvre.
e.g. In the last election the Labour Manifesto was promising up to £58 BILLION (half the total education spending!) to compensate the WASPI women (i.e. those who were so stupid that they hadn't noticed that equality of retirement age was announced back in 1995)
Starmer/Reeves look like they wouldn't touch this with a bargepole!

It will be interesting to see how Labour deals with the added expence of half the working population sitting on their arses because they are worried about stuff and feel a little bit unhappy!

Think there's so many things , or campaigns expecting the Govt to pay
Will Labour solve any?

Not all at once. We'll have at least a year of "the country's finances were left in an appalling state by the previous government" but one by one, they'll make progress.

Labour's 2024 manifesto is going to be so interesting. A huge challenge.

I think most people have lowered expectations
Knowing Tories are on way out and not bothered about them.
Interested to know how Labour moved to the left last time must have blinked

The problem with Labour is going to be keeping party discipline if they end up like Boris with 'a large stonking majority'.
At this point individual MPs think that they can vote against the Government 'just this once' to show how principled they are on some single issue (Gaza, Immigration, WASPI women, junior doctors pay or whatever spring to mind) and start to enjoy appearing in the press and on television thinking that people are actually interested in their opinion rather than enjoying watching them fighting amongst themselves like ferrets in a sack.
