Brian they will not pay more. Keith you are wrong as usual, no-one is refused treatment in Germany because they cannot pay. It is not like the USA.
I get better treatment here in the UK because I can afford private medical insurance (so I am paying twice!!) I think everyone in the UK deserves better treatment such as I can afford and should not be at the mercy of a second rate health system such as the NHS.

Barry, cost is an issue. As I waited in the chemist to pick up a pescription I was appalled to hear a woman question which of her medications was the most important as she could only afford to pay for two items and not the third. She informed the chemist that she was working but fell outside of the benefits system.
Even if everyone did have medical insurance the level of care would still be affected by the level of premium the individual could afford, i.e. Gold star, verses basic.

14% of wages is rather a lot and smacks of big government.
most of us earn the most when we are young and fit so any attempt to bash people here with a levy like that will not wash.

lesley those that work pay into a system that gives a service for those that dont work but unclear what kind of service is offered
pressure is being put on the german govt to reduce payments to 13% of wages (which is taken out of wages, no choice)
as germans think it to high
and barryw has never disputed the figures

Lesley - look into the German system. I have explained it before. Cost is not an issue over there, no-one is refused treatment in their insurance funded system. We deserve a system that is up with the best in the world, the NHS is a failing system and you have pointed out one failing of that. We are brain-washed into thinking that the only way to deliver health care to everyone is the NHS monolith, it is not.

I will look into the German system Barry but until then I would like to stress that we still have a far better system to many countries, and I am grateful for that. Seeing more closurers of childrens wards and the lack of qualified consultants on duty at A&E departments the other factor of "paying " for private care has to be taken into consideration, especially as the same consultant who could have prevented the loss of a loved one in a NHS emergancy is probabally performing a routine op on someone who can afford to pay, will never sit comfortably with me.

Tip of an ice-berg Howard....
Private Hospital told doctors to delay NHS work to boost ``profits``
A private Hospital which accepts NHS workhas instructed it`s doctors to artificially
delay operations on non-paying patients to encourage them to pay fees.
Department of Health ``pledges ``to intervene in this `unacceptable practice.
Nothing wrong in making a ``profit `` from desperate patients is there ???????????

keith
the problem will get worse due to increased performance from the n.h.s over the past decade or so.
waiting lists have never been so short, whether this continues is open to question.

The highly accaimed Oylmpic Opening Ceremony included a superb section on our NHS.
It was not a tribute or celebration to Private Medical Companies.........
