Certainly interesting read but the purposes test certainly isn't met, the express letters page has far more political posturing than the forum.
I do wonder how much it cost the taxpayer to pass that act though?

The prime minister has set out the issues his party will rely on in the campaign, N.H.S. and immigration not mentioned with the former linked to economic performance.

Its not all doom and gloom life is what you make it and the UK is doing OK at this time ,we still have the best free H.S in the world yes none of us like to wait but that is better then trying to find money in your pocket for treatment.THe only real thing that needs to be done is for the staff to get their small pay rise that was agree on by the powers to be, and win back the good will of its staff which they keep letting down.

Interesting piece by the shadow health secretary, too often people go to their doctor over minor ailments that they can and should treat themselves.

I think many people believe that & Jan recently stated that.
Just to follow that up.
It appears while the elderly clog up the beds it is the younger generations who are the main users of A&E.
The service needs to be re-modelled to deal with today & tomorrow's needs not the nostalgia of the past.
There is a lot of work going on locally working towards this end, it won't happen overnight & needs time to be implemented & bedded in.
Whichever party is in power the problem is still the same.

Maybe the answer would be to bring back the convalescent homes that I remember from my childhood. They could cater for those that no longer need serious medical care but are not completely well or not fit enough look after themselves.

The're on their way Jan. Called a combination of Extra Care, Intermediate or Step Down beds. One being built at Whitfield, one at Deal, one likely coming to Dover.

It's not always a question of throwing money at the N.H.S. to improve things but new ideas can actually improve things and save money at the same time. I have long championed more services at GP's surgeries to cover minor injuries, after all they have nurses and health care assistants in situ. Staggered opening times to cater for those who cannot get to their GP during working hours is another. It doesn't mean longer hours for staff as they would take turns in doing late shifts and/or weekends.

Thanks Paul, I suspect they will be well used they are certainly needed.
Linking to the other thread the closed practice at the Health Centre being in the middle of the town would make an ideal no appointment and minor injuries service as mentioned by Howard to take the pressure off A&E.

A lot of stuff like first aid, nutrition and basic healthcare ought to be taught at secondary school.

It takes money to win elections, 115 grand in one month to Facebook alone.

More good news for the Greens who are eating into the votes that the reds hoped to gain from the yellows.
Winter pressures at A & E has put the NHS at or near the top of people's concerns which is bad news for the blues.

I don't see how this will work with a seven person debate, besides Plaid Cymru and the SNP are not standing in the majority of the UK.

I can assure you the incident that Peter refers to did happen; he had a leaflet put through his door on Thursday went out to see who was delivering and spoke to the chap who said he was from Bulgaria. UKIP are paying companies to deliver their leaflets, at least here and in South Thanet. They obviously have plenty of money. But I wonder what they are paying these companies?
