Not a good analogy Howard,
Barry might not have an interest in football but still be able to have very valid views on the relative values of someone paid many thousand of pounds a week to kick a ball for 90 minutes to provide entertainment, compared to someone like a teacher or nurse earning the same in a year after much training to provide an essential service.

Ray, the topic on the last page was about taxation and State spending, a number of people were putting in views, and one got eliminated from the topic. Full stop. Well done!

To me it's about freedom of speech and if alexander chooses to write tosh, thats his choice.
With regard to postings/threads, no one is forced to read any thread, and if those of out there that don't like alexander's postings you don't have to read them.
I recall saying exactly the same thing about another poster whom many posters disliked his views and he shot off to dover locals, only for those same people to follow him there and then become firm friends on dover locals(isn't life strange lol)
Since then most of these posters either post on both sites, or have returned to this forum
All about choice,,,,,

Keith, I've noticed that some posters who have criticised me today did the same with Barry when his Blog appeared on the threads page. I read Barry's posts, and he reads mine, else he wouldn't comment on them.
We shouldn't be inviting people not to read the posts of this or that member, else the Forum would fall apart.

Alexander;
Many people have commented on your posts, i'm merely pointing out there are pages and pages to read on the forum
or create there own new threads, and rather than moan about 1 poster dont read them posts(they dont have to)
all about choice, read them if you want, if you dont want to then dont
no discouragement
all open its up to you thread lol

You both seem to be saying only read and comment on posts you agree with, what's the point of a discussion forum under those conditions?

i think there is a clear distinction between criticism of a post and rubbishing it.

I tend not to read some posts by a few people on here unless they are only a couple of lines because I know they will be posting a long diatribe where I will either not understand the point or it will be rubbish.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

Two businessmen who set up Vantis Tax Ltd on the Channel Islands Stock Market to exploit the tax relief laws for
600 `clients` (tax avoiders ) to avoid paying £ 70 million tax to the nations kitty, are jailed for 4 years ....such a pity more
finance johnnies are not behind bars.....
Cameron having been advised by the chair of Public Accounts Committee that companies like Apple,Google,Facebook,eBay
and Starbucks avoided a £ 900 million tax bill has said they will be investigated.
Yet another call for a Tax system to be revised to close all tax loopholes used by finance johnnies............

People should be jailed for committing a crime and not because Reg does not like or approve of them.
Those helping people save tax legally are doing a public service as well as a service to their clients. Over-mighty government and their rapacious demands are a danger to us all.

...doing a public service ?..........not paying into the public purse ?.......

Indeed a public service.
The government needs to be constantly reminded that it is the servant not the master and that the rule of law applies to them.
We, as individuals and companies, are also subject to that rule of law and it is a basic tenant of the British legal tradition that we are free to act in any manner that is not outlawed by our democratically elected parliament. Our actions are not 'by the permission' of the government, but instead the government acts with the permission we give. This is a vital distinction not liked by those who believe that instead we should be the serfs of the government.
I do not condone the breaking of tax law but fully encourage and support the use of legal means to save tax.

The Government has already made an agreement with Switzerland to clamp down on tax-evasion from the UK.
If Gov. clamps down on funds being moved to safe-havens around the world, and even in the Channel Islands, then tax avoiders will have to pay up to the Treasury.

Oh dear hear we go all over again, a number of posters above doing their usual...
The confusion of the terms avoidance and evasion - is this ignorance? stupidity? or deliberate muddying of the waters
The use of the phrase "finance johnnies" as some pejorative catch all for people whose activities some do not like
The constant insulting references to decent working class professions like bricklayers
The taking of offence at others posts, especially when it is clear on reading the posts no offence was intended
The ridiculous political divide about something that affects all of us and needs solving by all of us
To be honest, I find it boring and repetitive and it does little to move the discussion forward on how we move to a fairer society that rewards entrepreneurship and the risking of ones own resources, that rewards hard work (mental or physical), that places true value on socially useful jobs, that provides a safety net for the least well off whilst positively encouraging people to earn a living, that takes as little as possible from our earnings in taxation, has a tax code that is simple to understand and hard to avoid etc.
