Yes Tom, councils should be banned from charging below market rents and queering the pitch for decent hardworking private landlords. Scandalous.

``It`s the Economy stupid``
Economists now fear the UK triple A status may face a two notch fall .
It may face a double reduction as we may be facing a triple dip.
If so Osborne`s days will be numbered.....

I love the way you are always coming up with something new, Keith. 11,000+ mostly different ways of saying the same thing, that's world class stuff.

Strange that, Peter!
So tax cuts would be OK, rent cuts would not, nor mortgage cuts, nor interest rate cuts on loans to people in dire straits
And why?, may I ask!
Possibly because the tax cuts would relieve the wealthy, all the other cuts would be for the hard-working class.
Are you a Tory, per chance, Peter?

Rent controls - that old bogie was discredited back in the 70's. Those of you who want more and more power and control in the hands of politicians or quangoes need your heads examined.

I don't want landlord's demanding £100 per week more than the property is worth.
Whats wrong with that?

GaryC - define what a property is worth. That is a function of a healthy free market and supply and demand and not for any government to control. A rent level is between a willing landlord and a willing tenant. Full stop. There do need, and are, to be some legal safeguards in place of course over notice periods, deposits etc. At the end of the day the market is what determines prices.
