Extraordinary if that's the case. On so many levels.

At the mayor-making this evening a string quartet was playing Handel’s Water Music as an introduction and Bach’s Air in G during a pause in the proceedings.
String quartets don’t come cheap and while their performance was highly professional I think a CD would have done the job just as well. No doubt we shall see how much they cost in a future edition of the DTC minutes.

You won't find anything in the minutes Peter they are doctored so that none of us can ever know what was discussed, only the financials give a clue to what they are up to. I wonder how much tonight cost when the knees up in the Connaught hall with the Mayor's invited guests is added to hiring the string quartet?

Well, given that the Bach and the Water Music are usually performed with a small orchestra (or as many musicians as can fit on a Thames barge in the latter case) I would say DTC got a bargain with the quartet.

Cheapskates!
More seriously what a waste of money and how pretentious can you get for what is a tin pot event that is really only of interest for those taking part in this dressing up fiasco.

Much as I like the idea of having a town Mayor there really is no need to turn the Mayor making into a down market Oscars ceremony.

I believe that the addition of music was an idea from one of the councillors recent visit to Edinburgh where they had been totally gob-smacked on viewing the enormous and spectacular Tattoo.

I assume this is for DTC. If so what "media relations" this has covered I wonder, after all DTC are not exactly brilliant at publicising events or extolling the benefits of visiting the town.

Perhaps Clarkson Media have, as media consultants and advisors
a) Advised her not to answer & b) Charged DTC for the advice?

Jordan Bluer of the Express was referred to them by the Town Council for every question he had so gave up because there was only him left covering Dover. Nowadays they have nobody covering Dover so no real need for a PR company.
