That is what I think with the first being the parish town councils. The K.C,.C and THE D.D.C.HAVING their funding cut each year but that is not the same for parish councils, might be cap but not the same as cutting.
This would be saving of well over million each year, the parish councils do not need what they get town council gets some £700,ooo on its own and the other councils make up all is about the same, and we do not need all the parish councils we have they need cutting to.and just think of that 2million pounds going onto services bill big help that would make.Parish council have no say on big matters nor a say on anything anyway. So time to get rid of most of them.

Slightly out of date.Money raised by the River Parish Council goes to the upkeep of the River Recreation Ground. We have a Handy Man,who has painted the railings along the river ,painted bus shelters and seats .The Parish Council has also purchased new equipment including gymn .Flower beds are kept and grants are given out .They employ people to keep the toilets and changing rooms clean also to lock and open the gates in the rec.The money is raised by the River precept which River residents pay for .Our Parish Council spend your money wisely.
Alkham and Temple Ewell keep their villages well.
.Local people who take pride in their villages. No dressing up brigade .

Parish Councils take pride in their villages .,are you suggesting that we should pay even more to KCC who would not pay for all the things I have listed above. No we would see even more of our money going to West Kent. Our Rec would disappear and nothing would get maintained ,it's bad enough getting our roads maintained.
Dover Town Council raise money from the people of Dover if they chose to buy silly seats and have new robes that's their business.
For my part I'm glad we have Parish Councils run by local people who take pride in their community. Its what living in a village community is all about .Read their Parish magazines and see what they do .

I am broadly in favour of Parish councils for the reasons Sue has outlined but not sure about Town councils where party politics comes into play.

Will never admit to being out of touch .The gym equipment was proposed and now it's on the Rec.The trouble is some residents never join in with village activities.I have read Temple Ewell will help to support anyone organising a street party.Appling for road closures and supplying bunting etc.
Our local church has had the organ refurbished people gave generously to the cause. The Parish Council gave a small grant .The Parish Council also give grants to the Crabble Corn Mill
I don't mind paying the small amount to River Parish Council.
Just glad I'm not paying to the DTC

Whitfield PC are very good at letting us know what's going on via a monthly newsletter, which includes outline Minutes of the PC meeting. Money not wasted there!

Perhaps our Town Council will take note and make their Minutes understandable to the public?

Having been a cllr on most local councils with Whitfield, River just being two of them they still do not need the amount of cllr,s they have on the council, still think there could be a lot of saving if some of them joined up with each other with a cut in their funding from the D.D.C.River council did not pay out all the funding they got for the new area.they got grants as well . same for all parish councils they get grants on top of the funding they get from the D.D.C.I think just one office and one paid D.D.C.officer and a few parish cllr,s sitting in with him or her could run the lot.

Parish Councils no longer get funding from DDC.DDC are the collecting agent for money which goes to KCC ,Police and Towns and Parishes..The grant from DDC was phased out over a period of years that is why Parishes were encouraged to .raise the precept whilst they could. Our clerk is very busy .Yes we did get some grant funding but the Parish had to for some match funding .The small amount we pay for River is well worth it.
The Parish Councils were set up so decisions could be made locally.Ylou have like minded people as Councillors who know their community.Unlike County Councillors.

Just had a look at the River PC website and the Minutes are very informative and detailed, none of this copy attached stuff. The full council meets 10 times a year which is more than the Town Council.

Please tell me why the K.C.C. ad the D.D.C.must have all the cut backs and still keep things moving and a PC without any cutbacks cannot is that fair ? I do not think so they must play their part to and that means cut backs to.Town Council is a parish council like the others but get more funding then all the others put together so they must make more cuts then they do.

To Keith and Vic I pay £38.20 for River Parish Council good value for money less than £1 A week .I have stated in previous posts what we get for that.Having campaigned for a Parish Council over thirty years ago a save the rec campaign and the helping the Crabble CornMill over the years ,I cannot under stand why someone who lives in such a lovely village would be so against our Parish Council achievements. They have also purchased trees which KCC no longer fund.I also campaigned for.the houses and bungalows which are here.DDC wanted large family homes so those who live in lovely bungalows should be grateful.I was on the Parish Council and DDC at that time.on that note I leave you to digest this.I would rather fund a good Parish Council .there are no cuts that could be made in fact we are being asked to take on more.Think before you critise .

out of interest, what are all the other villages paying for there parish councils ?
we are paying £63 a year, and we pay around £900 a month for a clerk, and £700 a month for the clerks assistant !!!!! is this normal ??
and £240 a month to clean the parish council building. don't know why they can't clean up after themselves theres 9 of them

I can't see why a parish clerk needs an assistant, there can't be enough work to warrant it.

A question for your Town Councillor ?
