And I read today that up to 70 Labour MPs deemed to be potential counter-revolutionaries by Corbyn’s Geheime Staatspolizei are up for examination by the party faithful with a view to deselection. And I thought it was only the Blues tearing their party to pieces.

One of the outcomes of this week of madness is that the Government no longer needs the DUP. I think that will prove significant - maybe the all Ireland backstop will reappear.

Labour MPs like turkeys donot vote for Christmas. Not turkeys but a lot of chickens.I stayed up until past midnight. What a lot of rude and un professional people. The Speaker having shown his intention to stand down had nothing to lose.and gloated .Sad times. I just hope Boris sticks to his guns and on
31 St October the decision made three years ago to leave will be honoured.

Olly Robbins, the civil servant who failed to 'negotiate' us out of the EU paper bag, is rewarded with a knighthood by the saintly Theresa for trying to keep us in while appearing to take us out. After a brief sabbatical at Oxford University, he's off to Goldman Sachs' Investment Banking Division, where he'll join former EC President Barroso. Boris Johnson paid tribute. I think this fluidity of movement between politics, the civil service, banking and the EU tells us where the power rests, and it certainly isn't with 'the people'.

Excellent post WGS #4,473.
As per usual we have rewards for "the boys" who in this case have completely ignored the referendum result as they did not like that result.
Because of their action or lack of it we now have bully boy Boris in "charge" seemingly making a complete pig's ear of things by annoying a large section of Tory MPs who now unforgivably side with the opposition.
One good thing to come from all this Westminster rubbish is at least that man Bercow is going, he gives me the creeps.

I think I agree apart from your point on bercow
He has tended to hold the govt to account
What is strange is that any speaker of the house is not challenged at election time and every MP should be challenged
Tories would have challenged him
But have an un written out of date procedure not to challenge speakers at election s

The Brexit sage has caused a change in continental Christmas trips.
In the past many Flemish travelagents have set up Christmas trips to Canterbury and London.
Now they have changed it to the German towns such as Aachen and Cologne.
Nobody wants people sitting at a border post for hours.
This will not only hit Canterbury but also the F&B outlets at the port of Dover or at the Channel tunnel.

4479: interesting article, thank you.
4480: F&B? It's ro-ro freight that provides the bread and butter for (all) the port's finances; not sure about the tunnel though, which is of course a carrier as well. Port outlets have, to date, been constrained by the need to get outbound traffic through and the aspirations of carriers to make a few bucks during the short crossing.

It gets messier and murkier by the day
The Court of Session has ruled that the suspension of parliament is illegal (

Now who saw that coming?

Well, if we're to believe #4,479, then probably Dominic Cummings. To the Supreme Court now in any case.

Democracy at work?
Parliament was suspended, or prorogued the other day,
MP’s were furious and acted childishly, for their own way,
They grabbed hold of the Speaker by the leg I heard tell,
As the children ruining this country wanted the UK to sell.
England’s courts refused to give them back their toys,
So to Scotland they travelled making a heck of a noise,
Scotland’s Court of Session the verdict then changed,
After the anti’s lodged an appeal which was speedily arranged.
Today’s verdict was that Boris and the Queen were both wrong,
The conundrum now posed......is the English anthem our song?
It could be the Welsh or the Scottish one too; if there’s a purge on,
Maybe a change of Prime Minister, could it be Nicola Sturgeon?
I suggested the Scottish First Minister as she has all the Grouse,
But after the Grouse season ends she’ll have time for The House!
She could sort out the UK Parliament with her incessant dialogue,
Change everything to fail her way and let the tail wag the dog!
The saga of Brexit seems to be never ending, all started by Dave,
The final outcome not obvious now, except no face will we save,
This folly Cameron produced with his pointless referendum skit,
Will eventually leave a divided country in a great heap of....Brit.
