I thoroughly enjoyed the first half tonight - any chess player would agree, the passing and possession play was top drawer.
Now some lighter stuff from the interweb.

I found it thoroughly absorbing with two quality teams cancelling each other out.
Extra time looms but I think it will go to penalties.

Sorry but I found it very boring and at half time turned it off and had a game of cards with the wife Germany will have a easy match in my books.

Overall I have enjoyed the World Cup and have only missed a couple of games. the only down side for me has been some of the whistle happy Referees, who do not let the games flow, the TV pundits who keep on and on about South American teams (Brazil & Argentina in particular) and also going on about individual players.
I did want Holland to go on and win but hey ho that's football, just hope Germany can take care of Argentina and you never know Angela Merkel may buy and wear something different and brighter for the occasion.

Good one Harry. It will be only be a few weeks and I will be doing that in Dover will be there home away for a few matchs even that the away ones are miles away but 3 of us are going by car room for one more I think we will have to wait after the first one at home.

I've never seen the point of the third place match as supporters and players are totally demoralised falling at the final hurdle.
Having said that the first half between the hosts and the Netherlands has been a joy to watch, full credit to the players and the Brazilian public that have turned out in force.

I would not agree in the wording of humiliation I think that goes to England 4th place in the world is very good .
I think we will see the U,S,A, in the top four next time,
As for England there needs to be a big rethink on how we can get back to where we was in the 1960s that can only be done on spending millions of pounds on the schooling of our young ones and a lot less over seas players playing in our top clubs.
If our top clubs stop buying overseas players they could find the funds to spend on young English players.

I agree Vic. but top-level foorball is more about big-business, than football, and that's why the clubs are short-sighted and buy the best players they can afford.

Yes but if they could only buy one or max two overseas players all clubs would have to turn to UK players so be in the same boat.
And it would only take afew years to catch up look at Germany it was only four years from bad the best.
We could do the same.

70,000 Argentinian supporters have arrived in Rio hoping to rub the host's noses in the dirt even further.
Brazilian fans will be right behind Germany on this one - the only obstacle to Germany winning could be over-confidence in my view even with Lionel Messi playing for the opposition.

No goals but totally enthralling, pity one side has to lose after extra time and possibly penalties.

We are always being told that star fooballers are a self centred, greedy bunch but this article strongly suggests otherwise.
