I vaguely remember that most of the Senegal team that beat France in a world cup match 2 or 3 world cups ago were born in France.

At least England's failure will be overshadowed by another piece of Suarez madness.

I watched the second half of Uruguay and Italy, no shortage of action and controversy with Luis Suarez snacking on an Italian player.
Certainly an exceptional tournament with Spain and Italy going out at the group stage and so many matches being decided at the death.

But totally unexceptional in that England are going home after the group stage with their tails between their legs.

The cover of Private Eye said it all. As the team were descending from the aircraft the pilot asked "Shall I keep the engines running"?

HiD told me we had to watch the England-Uruguay game as an act of patriotism. She then dozed through the whole match. The previous two matches I watched in their entirety were between England and Argentina in 1986, and the 1973 cup final won by Sunderland. That was because I was trapped as a guest in the room where the beer was.

'EiD is totally oblivious reading JPS's "Roads To Freedom" trilogy while I watch railway and bus dvd's. I don't know who's the saddest.

I think the length of ban is just about enough but they should have demanded a letter from a shrink confirming that he is cured of the problem before he returns.

Totally enthralling game this evening between the hosts and Chile, I think the better side won but the visitors were denied by the woodwork at the end of extra time and then on penalties.
Plenty more excitement to come I feel.

Saw these headless footballers in a display case at the exit from the Eastern Docks yesterday.
Has Luis Suarez passed through?

Best team I have seen out of it now but next time could win and that is the U.S.A. they are getting better and better and now ahead of the UK we was sending our old players over there we need now to bring some of their young ones over to the UK.

7-1 humiliation for the host nation. C'est magnifique mais ce n'est pas le football.

I just hope Holland can win tonight and we can have an all European final, fed up with keep hearing commentators go on and on about how good the South Americans are. Yes Brazil were once great as was Argentina but they are not special any more and last night proved it.
If the Dutch can win tonight I would like to see them go on and win the trophy, but have to say that's by heart talking, as Germany on last nights show will take some beating.

If Germany can play like they did last night and Holland like they did against Spain we would be in for the best ever World cup final.

You know people have no answer to Germany when they start resorting to references to Hitler and the Nazis.
How about credit where it's due?

Not heard anyone do that Andrew - not regarding how they play football anyway.
Great result though for Germany, buit so embarrasing for Brazil, now Brazilians will be moaning even more about how much money was spent on the event.

Hmm, that depends on your interpretation, Roger. One comment with an overtone that harks back to the Nazis (albeit light heartedly) and another implying that it is somehow not the real deal, although I cannot quite work out why.
As I said above, credit where it's due...
Holland or Argentina might yet be ze masters - Germany have only a slightly better than 50-50 chance of winning the final, in my view.
In fact if we English put half as much energy into working together to achieve strategic goals as we did into niggardliness and winding each other up, we would be a far stronger country, both on and off the football field.
If Dover were in Germany, it would not be decaying like it is today, I can promise you.
Sorry, but it's the truth.
