If the Labour councillors were doing this out of sincere conscience, and standing alongside strikers on the picket lines I would respect them for it, however misguided I thought it might be. But if it's just gesture politics it stinks.

gove has authorised it, no pun intended, as an example of it being important with regard to the english wot we speek today.
incidentally the library is open and fully operational today, in the side bit that is sometimes a cafe it looks like an impromptu class.

Tom - What, to give you the chance to sing the red flag!!!! #76
you really do know how to screw up people's lives - you want to bankrupt their personal pensions now.
DT1 - do what you say, as I have said before, and you will bankrupt their employers....

This decesion taken last night was discussed at length,I have been a member of a Trade Union for 38 years. The picket line at the Council was there from 07.30 because my wife who works close by saw it.
We support the right of everyman to strike and we support the action, most Cllrs will be joining the Rally March and at 10.00 this morning some were joining the picket line.
The Council knew of this strike action and choose not to change the meeting,as the strike action was only confirmed recently we could not decide this before.A decesion was made that what ever the decesion we would stick 100 % behind it.Yes we are sad that the questions and motions would not be asked but they can be asked at the next meeting.
After a lengthy discussion we agreed first not to cross a picket line, then we discussed wether we should attend because it was a day of action, again we had a long discussion and the vote was 15 for 1 abstention.

Barry while I am familiar with 'nature's curse' on all of womankind I was not aware there was a specific anthem attached to it.
I note too that you give me the same status as the present Chancellor. Humility forbids further comment.

As I said THE RED CLLRS are leting down the members of the public by not going to the council meeting tonight and the public who voted them in, and at the next election when we all stand again,I will be telling the pubic just that. Because we was also told what is happing today, will happen more then once in the newyear, so are the red cllrs also going to ban going to any council meetings if it comes on the same day,? and now can they vote ,if they are not there and in doing that they are again leting down the public that voted for them.I think they have again not for the first time shot their own foot. But I am happy about that.

post 82;
my informants tell me it was well debated and john misunderstood the vote or some one else dis as there were 2 abstaintions both funnily enough proclaiming in the past to be on the left wing of the labour party(funny what a bit of power does to some)
post 85
you will see from johns postings the rally was at 1000
post 88
total rubbish(but of course able to have an opinion) the reds will romp home next
election
don't forget ukip locally(if there were a branch lol) its members are against standing candidates in local elections so ukip will remain a 1 policy party as seen by the public

having 5 minutes ago again looked up the national ukip web site
]and then braNCHES under the south east dover is still not listed
but getting back to issue, active dover members of ukip have said they do not believe in standing candidates in local elections
as for me not been a member of the labour party for 3 years and unlikely to rejoin
didnt vote for all the labour candidates in my last local elections
and if the national/local party continues with its p;resent policy on how it selects its general election candidate i wont be voting labour in the general election but iv said all this before.
that said well done the labour group for the solidarity shown
